Speaking and Listening
This term, students will focus on effective communication and active listening skills, to consolidate their Speaking and Listening capabilities. Throughout the term, they will be presented with a myriad of opportunities to participate in both whole-class and peer discussions. These experiences will continue to reinforce essential communication skills such as turn-taking and attentive listening. Students will practise transferring these skills to formulate thoughtful and meaningful responses to others.
We look forward supporting the students' growth in Speaking and Listening this term.
To support your child’s Speaking and Listening skills at home, you could:
- Set aside time for shared reading sessions with your child. Take turns reading aloud and discuss the story together. Encourage your child to ask questions, make predictions, and share their interpretations. This fosters active listening and develops their capacity to articulate their ideas effectively.
- Encourage your child to retell the events from their day. This will present an opportunity for them to develop their narrative abilities, expand their vocabulary, and speaking coherence. Feel free to ask them follow-up questions to extend the conversation further.
- Play listening games where your child must follow verbal instructions or identify sounds in their environment. This will help to sharpens their auditory skills and become more attentive listeners.
