Principal's Message

Dr Andrew Cousins

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I hope you are savouring the holiday break thus far and that you and your children have had an opportunity to rejuvenate and unwind before the start of Term 4.

The commencement of a fresh Term is always an exciting time filled with promise and opportunities for growth. As educators, it is especially heartening to observe the social, emotional and educational development of students throughout the year.

Educating and preparing our students to achieve their personal best and encouraging them to let their light shine is the fundamental essence of our mission here at Clayfield College, and I look forward to another Term dedicated to this.

This Term we look forward to welcoming eleven new students to the College, with three of these students enrolled in the Secondary School and eight students in the Primary School. In addition, we will be hosting four international Short-Stay students throughout the Term. On Wednesday 11 October we have our next Head of Primary-led Tour, followed by a Principal-led Tour on Friday 20 October. I am pleased to share that both tours are at capacity, with over 160 registered for the Principal-led Tour. I thank you all for fostering a College community which engages and embraces new families.

As I mentioned at the end of Term, in addition to the College’s regular maintenance and refresh holiday schedule, the refurbishment of the weights and cardio rooms in the Physical Education (PE) Centre is currently in progress. This is thanks to the support of the Clayfield College Foundation. Further, the entrance of the PE Centre is undergoing a makeover with fresh carpeting and tiles. Below are some progress pictures.

At the end of the year four staff, Ms Doris Haddock, Mrs Jo Skerrett, Mr Scott Grice and Mr Chris Humphreys, will be commencing retirement. I would like to thank each of them for their contribution to the Clayfield College community during their time with us. In particular, Ms Haddock is in her 34th year of teaching at the College and remarkably is now teaching the children of students she taught at Clayfield in the 90s! Part of our Speech Night Program will be dedicated to farewelling and honouring Doris’ significant contribution to the College over many years. The College community will also have an opportunity to bid these staff farewell as they commence their next chapters towards the end of the Term.

As Year 12 embark on the final stretch of their schooling journey at the College, I wish the cohort all the best as they prepare for their external ATAR exams. I am confident that the hard work and dedication they have invested in their studies will be duly rewarded and that their light will shine brightly in their exams and beyond. Good luck Year 12!

Term 4 will no doubt prove to be busy with many end of year celebrations, including the announcement of our 2024 Student Leaders, our annual Speech Night and Primary Presentation Morning, Year 12 Farewell Assembly, and Year 6 Celebration Service.

I have outlined below some of the community events happening in Term 4. I look forward to seeing you at these various events and thank you again for your continued support.

Kind regards
