Some words from the Principal

Mrs Danielle Heatley

World Teachers Day TODAY

Over the year we have celebrated so many amazing educators at Karoo.  I was lucky enough to enjoy a wonderful Principal Day in August and we were able to thank the amazing Educational Staff on 16th May.  Today is the day to celebrate the Teachers.  I would like to take this time to acknowledge the high quality teaching team we have at Karoo and thank them for their tireless passion to give your child every opportunity to succeed. Our teachers (and all staff) are incredibly dedicated to their role and I am so grateful to work with such an enthusiastic, positive and high performing team, who always put our students first. To each and every one of the Karoo teachers, and to all teachers - Happy World Teacher's Day!  Watch a special tribute here:

Foundation transition for 2024

Transition for 2024 will begin next week and we are so excited to welcome the next cohort of students. The first 2024 session will be held on Wednesday 1st November at 9.30am.

During this time the students will be having a taste of school, including meeting some wonderful Year 4 students who will be their buddies in 2024.

Monday 6th November (Cup Weekend)

As mentioned in previous Compass posts, Year 3-6 teachers who attended camp will not be in attendance at school on Monday 6th November. Please be advised that on this day regular classes will NOT be running for Year 3-6 and they need to come to the gym in the morning. If a student attends they will be placed in F-2 classes with an alternative learning program for the day. Regular class teachers will not be available in Year 3-6 as they are having the day in replacement of time in lieu from attending camps in 2023.

Unwell Students

We have noticed a high number of students that are attending school with flu like symptoms and upset stomachs. I remind you that if your child is unwell they need to please stay at home until well enough to return to school.

Tutoring in 2024

In great news we have been allocated some further funding for 2024  to ensure the Tutor Learning Initiative continues. Each year since the initiative has been introduced, the amount of financial support has reduced from DET.   Our tutors Mrs Vitas, Mrs Harris and Mrs Marker have worked incredibly hard during 2023 to support a wide range of students in Literacy development.  We are currently working with region and looking at our school data to identify the focus for 2024 and how the support will look at Karoo in 2024.  Tutoring compliments the LEAP intervention program as well.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you around the school,
