Division Basketball Finals

On Friday 13th October, 8 girls from Year 5/6 competed in the Knox Division Basketball Finals at Knox Basketball Stadium. The girls progressed through their pool games without conceding a match, resulting in them earning a position in the Division Final. The girls maintained their undefeated record, winning the final and taking home the premiers pennant. Our girls will now compete on Friday 27th October at Mullum Mullum Stadium in Donvale for the opportunity to progress through to the State Finals.

I was lucky enough to attend the event and watch the girls compete throughout the day. It was a pleasure to watch them perform at such a high level and I must say we certainly have some very talented basketball players at Karoo. Above all though, I was most proud of the cohesion within the group and the level of respect that was shown towards the opposition teams and referees of the match. Our girls continued to represent the school in a positive way and for that I am immensely proud!

I would like to acknowledge and thank Ben Gilbert who has gone above and beyond to make this experience a memorable one for all of the girls involved. From regularly training the girls during lunchtime and afternoon breaks to running strategic plays with them on competition day, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching such a high level of coaching and commitment from Ben.

We wish the girls all the very best of luck for the Eastern Metropolitan Region Finals on Friday 27th October!

Division Cricket Finals

On Friday 20th October, 12 boys from Year 5/6 competed in the Knox Division Cricket Finals at Kings Park in Upper Ferntree Gully. The boys maintained their undefeated record throughout the pool games, winning all 3 games convincingly and progressing through to the Division Final against another team from the Rowville District who finished on top of their pool.

The Division Final was a high quality game of T20 Blast Cricket which saw incredible catches, perfectly timed boundaries and impressive teamwork. The boys displayed an outstanding brand of cricket, even more importantly though, represented our school with enormous pride by demonstrating our Karoo values throughout the event. To put it simply, the sportsmanship and teamwork defined our every match.

At the end of the Division Final, our boys received the runners up pennant only going down by 7 runs. We are so proud of these amazing cricketers who put in their best effort all day to achieve an outstanding result!

I would like to express my gratitude to Rob and Sarah Elliot for coaching and organising the team on the day. The boys were very fortunate to have such a high level of experience to support and guide them on the day. I have no doubt this played a huge role in the overall result and achievement of the team.

Eastern Metropolitan Region Track & Field Finals

On Thursday 19th October, we had 5 students compete in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Track and Field Finals. These students were Chloe Varney, Jack De Bolfo, Maddison Glancy, Mitchell Howard and Maya Lechner. Each of these students participated in the individual event they qualified for through the Knox Division Track and Field Finals. Well done to all students for their outstanding achievement of representing our school, displaying tenacity and striving to achieve personal excellence.

A special congratulations to Mitchell Howard who finished 2nd in the 9/10 boys high jump event. Mitchell will now compete in the State Finals on Wednesday 1st November at Lakeside Stadium. Mitchell, on behalf of Karoo we wish you all the very best of luck for your final round of competition!
