News from the Chicken Coop

                                                            Thank you

Thanks to the Bowers family for looking after our gorgeous feathered friends last weekend. We heard you got lots of eggs, yum!

URGENT - Volunteers are needed for all weekends this term from 28/29 Oct.

Each weekend during the school term families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. Chicken Duty involves letting the chooks out of their coop in the mornings and putting them away in the evenings as well as checking that they have enough water and food each day. Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs they collect over the weekend. An information sheet will be provided with all the details prior to your duty.

Please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au  with a couple of your preferred dates and we’ll pop you on the roster for one of those. First in, first choice of dates!

Egg Lotto

The Environment Leaders will be out in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15-3:30pm to sell tickets to parents or students.

All the money we make is put back into the keeping of the chickens for buying food and other resources. The next Egg Lotto draw will be  Monday 23rd October at assembly. There will be a couple of dozen eggs available to win so get your $1 raffle ticket soon.

News from the Garden

Look what else we’ve been growing in our wicking beds…beautiful beetroot!

Last week we harvested our small crop of beetroot and sold it to teachers and parents at our weekly stall out the front of school. It was very popular!

Each week we sell Egg Lotto tickets and sometimes fresh produce from our garden. There is always fabulous worm juice available (liquid fertiliser from the worm farms), just ask for it, if it’s not on display.

Recycling

Have you checked out the Recycle Mate App yet? It’s a very handy app that helps with what you can recycle at home. For those items that you’re unsure about

you simply take a photo of it and the app will tell you if it’s recyclable or not in your council area. Pretty cool huh?
