Kingfisher Concert

Once again, the Kingfisher Concert has reached a higher-than-expected performance.  Year in year out, this concert impresses me with the level of performance by those students who participate in this event.  Students have the opportunity to perform as a soloist or within an ensemble or band.  This performance is clearly one in which Great Southern Grammar is displayed as one school from Year One to Year Twelve.  Truly an event where the older students provide clear leadership for those in the younger years.  At this concert we farewelled our Year Twelve performers, many of whom had been performing in Kingfisher Concerts and other school events for nearly a decade.  These students have enjoyed performing at various venues across Albany.  We thank them for sharing their talents.  Thank you to Director of Music, Ms Emma Luxton, and the team of music and instrumental staff, and to Donna Thomas for her administration of this event.

Technologies Showcase

George Knowlden, an alumni student, was the guest speaker at the Technologies Showcase.  He provided the students with a history of his studies after he left school, and provided an insight into his current work in the technology space. George also challenged the students to understand the negative impact that AI can have on our future.  He posed the question that we need to be careful and place a strong moral compass on the development of AI in our society.  The showcase consisted of Woodwork, STEAM, Sustainable Production, Hospitality and Digital Technologies.  Thank you to Head of Technologies, Mrs Teresa McAllister, for coordinating this event. Thank you also to the staff and students who spoke about their experiences with technologies, and finally to the parents who attended.

Griffins Sport

Over the weekend I attended numerous grand finals for the Great Southern Griffins.  These finals provided an opportunity to witness quality performances by Griffins teams.  Not all teams were Premiers, but all students enjoyed being part of a team.  Congratulations to all those involved in the Griffins winter sports season.

Happy Holidays

I wish all families a safe and restful break and look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday 10 October.
