Mr Stephen Chapman

Dear parents/caregivers, staff, students and friends,

My newsletter article is brief.  I’d like to put a different perspective on the journey we have had with Year 12.  They finished their formal schooling today after 13 years.  There are so many aspects to this emotional and rewarding time with so many people involved.  It’s great to see the growth in our young people as they develop.  For this article, I’d like to talk about what it’s like to be a teacher of a Year 12 subject.

I am proud to be the teacher of the Mathematics Advanced class of 2023 at O’Connor.  Our class of 11 students has become a tight knit group as the twelve of us journeyed through the last two years.  We have laughed and cried with all of us better for the experience, working towards learning a curriculum to not only maximise the HSC mark for each student, but to grow into life long learners.  During our last lesson on Wednesday, we had a candle ceremony and cake to celebrate and remember this journey.  I’ll always remember the look of gratitude and self-pride on the faces of these students as we sat around the cake.

By the way, they promised to work hard in the short time remaining before their HSC exam!

I know this is happening with many teachers at O’Connor as we finish our classes.  What an honor it is to teach a Year 12 class!

Thank you and good luck, Year 12!
