HELPING OUR CHILDREN THROUGH HARD THINGS

Welcome back to Term 4. Can you believe that we're here already? While the majority of students are very excited about returning to school, for a few, starting back for the final term of the year may be a tough transition (and perhaps even some teachers too! Haha!) especially after enjoying the marvellous weather on the Peninsula that we’ve had on our recent school holidays.

So whether it’s returning after a great holiday back to school or confronting something else your child finds difficult or unpleasant, supporting your child through challenges associated with doing hard things can build optimism, positivity, perseverance and confidence in your child and will equip them to be more resilient for future adversities that they may face.

When your child seems to be struggling with something challenging, psychologists recommend for parents to reframe what is happening, show understanding and to challenge any unhelpful thoughts or expectations as they arise. Here are some things that you, as a parent, can keep for your 'pep talk toolkit' for what to say when your kids are struggling with challenges they face:

Looking forward to a positive and enriching Term 4, filled with many challenges and learning opportunities for our children.

Warm Regards,
