Polding Athletics Championships
On Friday 13 October, Shaylyn Smith, Paris Barnes, Matilda Ward, Sascha Bailey, Pippa Fleming and Joseph Sullivan travelled to Sydney to represent St Philomena's and the Armidale Diocese at the Polding Athletics Championships. All our Phillies athletes displayed outstanding athleticism and sportsmanship as they competed against hundreds of students in the track and field events.
Paris competed in the 12 yrs shot put. She threw a remarkable 7.02m and placed 7th overall. Matilda competed in the 11yrs high jump. She jumped 1.20m and placed 8th overall. Sascha competed in the junior shot put throwing 5.67m, placing her 14th overall. Joseph competed in the 11 yrs discus and shot put. Joseph placed 6th in discus throwing 20.33m and 12th in shot put throwing a new personal best of 8.82m.
Matilda, Paris, Pippa and Shaylyn formed out St Philomena's senior girl relay team. The girls displayed their exceptional team work and persistence on the day competing against 11 other schools from around the Polding region, placing 9th overall. Well done, girls!
Shaylyn competed in the 12 yr long jump, high jump and 100m. She ran a fierce 100m prelim progressing her into the final. Shaylyn ran a new personal best of 14.17 in her 100m final, placing her 5th overall. In her field events, Shaylyn received a silver medal for long jump and a bronze medal for high jump.
We are thrilled to extend a huge congratulations to Shaylyn on her outstanding achievement in advancing to the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships for long jump and high jump. St Philomena's is incredibly proud of your accomplishments. Good luck, Shaylyn!
