Primary Week 1
Tijahna Smith - For her improvement when recalling Rocket Words and High Frequency Words during Reading Groups
Remi Pitt - For always being an inclusive friend and role model for her peers on the playground and in the classroom.
Indiana Cook - For being a positive and encouraging member of Year 1 who sets a great example for others to follow.
D'Jahlu Murray - For consistently applying the strategies he has learnt to improve all aspects of his reading.
Vincent Carroll-Hamilton - For his dedication in learning to convert between units of time.
Chaisse Rowe - For his dedication and support when leading his debating group to compose a structured debate.
Primary Week 2
Elliot Waring - For always being an inclusive friend and role model for his peers on the playground and in the classroom.
Billy Brannan - For his increased confidence when sharing his thinking in Mathematics.
Halle Hollands - For her tremendous development in reading, comprehension skills and the creation of an exemplary PEEL paragraph in persuasive writing.
Cooper Simpson - For his commitment and application to achieving his reading goal.
Secondary Week 1
Don’t interrupt the learning of others or the work of adults who are helping us learn - Shaylee Haines, Hunter Rowe, Denna McGrady, Dennikah Burling & Gordie Cooper.
Polding Athletics
Shaylyn Smith and Nyarii Munro, were our only Indigenous students who qualified to compete at Homebush in Sydney. Shaylyn competed in the senior girls relay, 12 yr 100m, 12 yr long jump and 12 yr high jump. Shaylyn placed 2nd in long jump and 3rd in high jump, receiving a silver & bronze medal. Congratulations Shaylyn, we are very proud of you and your achievements. Shaylyn is off to NSWPSSA Athletics Championships for long jump and high jump.
Secondary Sports Activities
This term our secondary students are being offered a cultural activity for their Friday sport option. All students from years 7- 10 had the opportunity to join a cultural session for their Friday afternoon sport, this activity involves gathering on our yarning mats and enjoying - art, music and weaving while having the chance to yarn with their classmates. Our first session, saw a large number of students engaging in painting of boomerangs and coasters. We are looking forward to commencing our weaving with the support of Miyay Birray Youth Service Inc this week.
Yulu-gi (Dance)
This term our Indigenous secondary students also had the option to undertake dance for their Friday afternoon sport with Shae Duncan from Yulugi Marumali, which has now been offered to our Indigenous students in Years 4 - 6. We are looking forward to our older students learning a new dance that they can pass onto our younger students from our Murri Yulu Gaay dance group.
Murri Yulu Gaay Dance Group Info
Students from our Murri Yulu Gaay dance group years two to secondary, have two exciting invites this month. They have been invited to dance at the Dhiiyaan Centre on Thursday 24th October for the Benevolent Society and to do a welcome dance for the NSW Catholic Schools Office CEO as he visits our school on Wednesday 25th October. These are private events. We will be sure to take plenty of photos for our parents to see. Girls will need to bring their black clothing for both of these days.
Classroom Activities
During this term, Year 8 English students have been delving into the pages of an Indigenous story. As an extension of their reading journey, they have learning basic Gamilaraay language to create their own sentences in language.
