Principal's Report

Year 1 Old Fashioned School Day

As part of Year 1’s Looking Back Inquiry Unit the children dressed up in olden day clothes. Our Year 1 teachers taught the children about what it was like to go to school in the olden days. I am sure it's agreed, that it is much nicer going to school nowadays!

Sustainability Festival

On Thursday of last week, a dozen selected students from our Senior Campus ventured with Mr McRae to the Port Phillip Eco-Centre’s Schools Sustainability Festival. This was a whole-day experience at St Kilda Town Hall where students from eighteen different schools shared their knowledge and practice of Sustainability.  We educated other schools about our learning and understanding of more than 25 species of birds which are local to Gardenvale Primary School. Here is a photo of our Year 6 Environment Captains, Kiko and Elliot, with a special Bird Whisperers Award that we won on the day.

You might recognise this photo. It is our bird watching display which we have proudly had on our school fence for the past few years.

Thank you to Tim for your enthusiasm, hard work and persistence in trying to make our school as sustainably friendly as possible!

Footy Day

If you are free on Friday morning, come along and join us as we celebrate one of Melbourne’s traditions – Australian Rules Football. Students are asked to dress up in their footy gear or sports team colours. Students will participate in activities involving football skills at the beginning of the day, then assemble as a whole school and sing all the clubs’ songs after recess.  If you are able to help out with the footy skills rotations, please email gardenvale.ps@education.vic.gov.au. Parent volunteers are welcome provided we have a copy of your Working with Children Card on file and you have completed the Parent Volunteer Agreement Form; https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1LZekwxcUD68RykL6HtUPD6CIUO0T8WBqE2LX5X3EQZw/edit

Our Assembly will be held at the Senior Campus from 11.15am. We thank Kym Hayat, Deb Putt and Robyn Krawitz for organising the small fundraiser, selling treats from Choc’d, after the assembly and at lunch time. For more information see the PFA section of this newsletter.

As it is the last day of Term 3 students will be dismissed at 2.30pm this Friday.

Wishing all our families celebrating Rosh Hashana a very happy time, enjoying special festivities and traditions.

Have a lovely week enjoying the sunshine,

Janine Hall
