8F Hip Hop Workshop Excursion

On Thursday August 31st 8F travelled to Melbourne to attend a Hip Hop workshop at the Arts Centre, Melbourne. Hip-hop offers artists from diverse backgrounds a platform to start important conversations, and promote the genre's core values: respect, inclusion and individuality.

In this workshop, we were encouraged to think about issues that affect us and impact our lives. We were led in crafting those ideas into lyrics with a backing beat, experimenting with rhyme and flow.

We learned about the Hip-Hop genre, lyric writing tips, idea generation and the use of metaphor, similes and symbolism to create a poetic piece of writing.

I enjoyed this trip because we didn’t have to do any school work and it was fun exploring the arts at the Australian music vault. To explore modern and past music and to listen and learn about these was fun.

I enjoyed working with n’fa to create a rap with my friends and he was overall really fun and a good teacher. The whole experience was amazing and I would definitely go back and do it again!

On Thursday August 31st, Our class (8F) travelled to Melbourne to attend a Hip Hop workshop at the Arts Centre, Melbourne.

We were assisted in our songwriting, we also got the ability to work as a team to create a songpiece. We were told reasons on how the hip hop genre was used in our life.

We were first introduced to the basics of writing a hip hop song, including tips and tricks, structure, the rules, and rhythm. As a class, we then created a verse, decided on the speed and feel of the song and then sung it all together. After we knew everything we needed, we split off into small groups. We wrote our imagination down on paper and produced creative lyrics. We were encouraged to share our songs with the class, and we got to see all our songs being shaped. During the class everyone became more confident and were able to create a poetic piece of song, in small groups and the class. Even the teachers joined in.

Our second place of the day was the Australian music vault. The vault gave us a deep dive into the history of hip hop music, it showed different styles and artists within the hip hop genre and helped us understand more about this Genre.
