Principal's Report
We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.
May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.
Welcome back!
We wish all of our students and families back for the final term of the year - we trust that our entire school community enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled holiday break.
Milk Sprint
We have been incredibly overwhelmed by the generous response to our challenge to provide the local Ballarat Soup Bus with a months supply of milk from Miners Rest Primary School. An increasing number of families in the Ballarat community rely on provisions from the Ballarat Soup Bus. Milk is a staple that can nourish all members of the family, particularly children. The Ballarat Soup Bus provides over 500 litres of milk to people and families every month and the need is increasing. We are very close to the 500 litres we need to meet our goal. Alan Smith, representative from Rotary, will be joining us at assembly on Friday - along with the Ballarat Times. We will present our litres of milk to Alan and we are hoping to achieve our goal.
Staffing
Another term and some more changes to staffing to share with our community.
We welcome Linda Duke - our new Performing Arts Teacher. Linda has already settled into our environment and is enjoying meeting all of the students in the Performing Arts space. Megan Polson has returned to SEEDS (Social & Emotional Development Space), to support the needs of some of our children in Foundation and Years One and Two. We are very fortunate to offer this program to support our children's needs in this very important area of development.
Matthew Smith has been appointed to Landsborough as Acting Principal for the first four weeks of this term.
Welcome to the world!
We are excited to announce the arrival of some babies over the past few weeks.
Miners Rest K-6 would like to congratulate...
Emily Pellegrino on the birth of baby Arabella Rose. We wish Emily, Adam and big brother Tom every happiness as they welcome Arabella into their family.
Ellie O'Connell and her partner Adam have also welcomed a baby daughter into the world. Marlie Ellen was born during the school holidays and we wish Ellie and Adam our very best wishes on the arrival of Marlie.
Helping in the Classroom
Lots of very important learning continues to occur across our school throughout Term Four. If you are already volunteering and supporting learning at our school, we thank you sincerely for your support and commitment. If you are considering offering some time to support in the classroom, please don't hesitate to speak to your child/ren's classroom teacher. Your involvement is always valued and appreciated.
2024 Classes
As we begin Term Four, considerations for 2024 classes commences. If you have critical information about your child, that you wish the school to consider during the development of classes, you are invited to make an appointment with me to discuss your child's placement for next year.
I must assure all of our families that our teachers and teams engage in an extensive placement process this term. Consideration is given to the social and emotional needs, as well as academic needs of every child. Every student is also given the opportunity to name a selection of children to ensure placement with a friend. The desired outcome of this process is to ensure appropriate and successful placement for all children. If required, please communicate a request of class placement appointment via the school email.
Camps
Year 6 and 5 Camps are quickly sneaking up on us. Our Year 6 students will head off to Canberra on Monday morning - October 9.
Year 5 students will then hit the road the week after and head to Camp Norval.
Both groups of students and teachers have engaged in important learning to support touring the National Capital and the Grampians. We thank our families for the support their children's attendance and also in the preparation leading up to departure.
We know that everyone involved will thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Swimming
Years F-4 will engage in learning to swim and water safety sessions this term - perfect timing for the season. Please ensure that your child has all necessary named belongings to participate in this important learning with their peers.
What are we looking forward to in Term 4?
