Magnify Sandhurst: Looking Ahead
Last week, I was fortunate to join more than 125 principals and leaders of teaching and learning to reflect on Magnify Sandhurst, then, now, and into the future.
Without giving too much away, I can share that Magnify continues to hold firmly to its vision of every student, every teacher, every day. The work being done behind the scenes is internationally acclaimed because it is grounded in strong evidence and research.
Our school community directly benefits from this through professional staff training, ongoing coaching, and continual support. These ensure that our teachers are well equipped with the most effective strategies to meet the diverse needs of our students.
During the leadership day, we also unpacked the latest assessment data from across all schools in the diocese. The new data platform allows teachers to hone in on individual student needs and have access to tools that support targeted learning. For me, it was a real privilege to look closely at our school’s data and celebrate the significant growth our students are making.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be another year full of amazing opportunities for the children in our care, helping them foster a bright future in both their learning and their lives.
What is StepLab?
StepLab is an internationally recognised professional learning platform developed in the United Kingdom by leading educators. Its purpose is to help teachers grow by breaking teaching into small, clear steps and then supporting staff with feedback, coaching, and practice. Schools around the world use StepLab to build consistent, high-quality teaching by encouraging teachers to celebrate their strengths and continually refine their craft.
For our St Mary’s community, this means that your children benefit from teachers who are always learning too, ensuring that every student, every teacher, every day continues to thrive.
Growing as Teachers Through Coaching
Mr Ryan and Mrs Fiske-Kealy have recently completed a two-day intensive course through StepLab to further develop their coaching skills. This training equips leaders with strategies to provide positive, constructive feedback to staff and to guide teachers in the next steps of their professional growth. It is part of the wider Magnify Initiative, which supports every school across the Sandhurst Diocese in ensuring that personal growth and development are visible, measurable, and continually enhanced.
With staff members trained in high-quality coaching, teachers are able to take part in coaching cycles that promote reflection, refinement, and support. These cycles can focus on many aspects of classroom practice, such as lining up routines, gaining students’ attention effectively, or building positive interactions with individual learners and groups.
