F/1/2 CLASSROOM

Father’s Day Celebrations

What a wonderful week we have shared in celebrating Father’s Day at St Mary’s!

A huge thank you goes to our Parents and Friends Committee for all their hard work in preparing and running the Father’s Day Stall. This was such a success, and it was beautiful to see the joy on students’ faces knowing they could take home a special gift for their dads, something made possible by the generosity and support of our P&F team.

We also thank everyone who came along to our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday morning and again a shout out to our wonderful P&F team. It was a fantastic turn-out, with so many students proud to share this moment with their special person.

What a wonderful term we are having! Although it is only nine weeks long, we have managed to fit in an incredible amount of learning and growth.

In Mathematics, our F/1/2 students have been exploring sharing, division, multiplication, and repeated addition. Alongside Ochre Education resources, which guide our explicit teaching, recall, and practice, we have also made time for collaborative activities. These allow students to showcase their skills and apply their knowledge in new contexts, helping concepts “stick” and building confidence in their mathematical thinking.

In Religion, we have been extending our understanding of Caring for God’s World by looking more deeply at stories from the Bible. These explorations help students to see the messages in the stories and remind us how Jesus wants us to live a joyful and fruitful life. We have also explored Dreaming stories to reflect on how important messages are told and received, making strong links between faith, respect, and culture. Each day we are reminded to think about how Jesus would act and communicate in different situations.

Our Literacy learning continues to be vibrant and engaging. Each week we enjoy a new book that inspires our vocabulary, craft, and creative thinking. Students love learning new “word treasures” from our class texts. In last week’s book, The Pencil, our focus words were shivering, hesitate, and ridiculous. The children delighted in listening out for these words during reading time and enjoyed playing our “Doctor Doctor”

game to practise them. You might like to ask your child to share this fun game with you at home, it even had us imagining hair that looked like spaghetti!

Finally, don’t forget to pop into the classroom when you can. The children have been creating wonderful weekly craft activities based on our books, and they would be so proud to share their work and their new vocabulary with you.
