Just ask!

RUOK? Any day, is encouraging all Australians to create space for meaningful conversations, any day of the year.
Pedal Power
At Glenroy College, we encourage everyone to reach out and start conversations with friends, family, and colleagues who may be struggling with their mental health.
Our goal is to inspire confidence in asking the simple but powerful question: “Are you OK?” — because you don’t need to be an expert to make a difference.
While we were pedalling away and blending up our smoothies on the bikes, it was the perfect chance to do more than just make a healthy drink. As everyone took turns riding and creating their shake, it became a great moment to start a conversation with a friend.
Asking how they were going and if they were really OK made a difference. Just like the energy from the bike powered the blender, a simple check-in gave someone the boost they needed. A small conversation had a big impact.
The four steps:
- Ask
- Listen
- Encourage
- Action & Check In.
The movement emphasizes that a simple conversation can make a significant difference and should happen not just on the designated day but any day of the year.
How to have an RU0K? Conversation
- Ask are you okay?
Start by reaching out to someone you're worried about.
- Listen:
Give the person your full attention and let them talk without judgment.
- Encourage Action:
If they're going through a tough time, help them explore steps they could take to feel better.
- Check In:
Follow up in the coming days or weeks to show you're still there and to see how they're doing.
Key Principles
- Any Day is the Day:
- You Don't Need to Be an Expert:
- A Conversation Could Change a Life:
While the official day is important, the goal is to foster continuous, meaningful conversations with the people around us.
You just need to be a good friend and a great listener to make a positive impact.
Regular, meaningful connections build trust and can help normalize discussions about mental health, creating a support system when people need it most.
