Science P-6
This term in Science, Prep students will become young scientists on a journey of growth and change! They’ll explore how living things grow and how some stay the same while others transform. Through activities and observations, students will investigate life cycles and how animals, plants, and humans adapt to survive. By the end of the unit, students will see the amazing ways life changes all around them.
Year 1 & 2 students will dive into the amazing world of minibeasts! They’ll discover what makes insects so special, exploring their body parts and how different species adapt to where they live. Students will design and build their own insects and go on bug hunts to explore real habitats like compost and leaf litter. By the end of the unit, our curious young scientists will be buzzing with knowledge about how these tiny creatures help keep our world alive and thriving!
Year 3 & 4 students will become junior geologists, uncovering the secrets of our ever-changing planet. They’ll journey deep into the layers of the Earth, discover how volcanoes erupt and mountains form, create rocks, grow crystals and examine minerals and gemstones. To wrap up the unit, students will build their own landform models, showing how powerful natural forces like erosion and weathering continue to shape the Earth today.
Year 5 & 6 students will become forensic scientists, using science to crack exciting mysteries! They’ll investigate real crime-scene clues - analysing fingerprints, shoe prints, tool marks, hair and fibres to identify “suspects”. Students will take part in experiments like chromatography and mystery powder testing to uncover hidden evidence and learn how chemistry helps solve crimes. By the end of the unit, our young detectives will have sharpened their observation, reasoning and problem-solving skills while discovering how science reveals the truth!
Visual Art
Years 1 and 2
This term in Visual Art, Year 1 and 2 students will dive into the world of painting with a focus on colour theory. They will experiment with mixing primary colours to create secondary colours, building their understanding through hands-on exploration. In addition, students will discover the vibrant art form of Molas — traditional textile artworks of the Guna people from Panama. Inspired by the bold patterns and imagery used to represent tropical plants and animals, students will create their own artworks that celebrate culture, nature and creativity.
Years 5 and 6
This term, Year 5 and 6 students will explore two influential artists through hands-on creative projects. They will begin by studying the expressive landscapes of Vincent van Gogh, using paint and oil pastel to create their own vibrant landscape artwork. Later in the term, students will be introduced to clay modelling techniques. Drawing inspiration from the abstract and playful style of Pablo Picasso, they will design and sculpt a unique clay piece that reflects their interpretation of his artistic approach. It promises to be a colourful and imaginative term of artistic discovery!
Music
Prep – Xylophone
This Term, Prep students will be introduced to the xylophone through engaging hands-on activities. They will explore the concepts of rhythm and melody as they play the wooden bars using mallets. This experience helps develop their understanding of musical patterns and enhances their listening skills.
Year 1 – Cultural Dance
This Term, Year 1 students will have the opportunity to explore cultural dance. Through guided dance, they will learn traditional steps, rhythms, and the rich histories behind dances from around the globe. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate diversity, build confidence and connect with different cultures.
Year 2 – Xylophone
This Term, Year 2 students will be learning to play the xylophone. Learning the xylophone in the music classroom offers students a fun and engaging way to explore rhythm, melody and develop coordination. Students gain hands-on experience with musical patterns and scales, helping to build both listening skills and musical confidence.
Year 3 – Drumming & Rhythm
This Term, Year 3 students are exploring rhythm through hands-on experiences with percussion instruments, including bucket drums, African djembes, Cajons and Boom Whackers. They are developing their ability to imitate increasingly complex rhythmic patterns and to maintain a steady tempo when playing along with music. As part of their learning, students will also listen to and respond to music from various cultures, gaining an appreciation for global musical traditions and styles.
Year 4 – Ukulele
This Term, Year 4 students are learning to play the ukulele as part of the music program. Students will learn correct playing technique, basic chords, and strumming patterns. They will apply these skills to perform familiar songs. They will also strengthen their listening and performance skills by following chords with whole class play alongs.
Year 5 & 6 - Electronic Music Making
This Term, Year 5 and 6 students will be participating in electronic music making using the program Soundtrap. This is an online digital audio workstation that enables them to compose and produce original music. Students will build skills in layering tracks, using loops, selecting virtual instruments, and editing to communicate their musical intentions. This program will strengthen their creativity, collaboration and digital literacy.
Physical Education
In term 4 the Junior School (Prep – Year 2) will be introduced to and practise various striking techniques through a range of sports. These will include T-Ball, Bat Tennis and Hockey. Students will also complete some rotations based on activities and skills taught throughout the year such as, throwing and catching, dribbling basketball and soccer ball, shooting for goals in basketball and soccer as well as balances. The Junior School will also participate in a House Athletics / Fun Day late in Term 4.
The Senior School (Year 3 – Year 6) will develop skills in the domain of Badminton and Cricket. They will also have the opportunity to experience some golf striking and frisbee golf games.
