PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

I would like to preface this report by sharing with the P&C, over the period of a week the school has been responding to extremely sad news within our community.  Today has been an emotional day for staff and I, who have been well supported by our Relieving Director and Team Around the School. While I am unable to share this sad news with you tonight, it will be shared with the community when all supports are in place. My report will be quite short, and I will do my best to provide responses to questions where I can.

Congratulations

William in Year 3 and Kingston in Year 6 who represented Peakhurst PS and GR Network at the Regional Finals for the Premiers Spelling Bee last Friday. Both boys competed with confidence and demonstrated great skills in ability to spell most complex words. William performed through to Round 9 where he was eliminated, and Kingston went through to Round 11 where he won. Kingston will continue to the next level, State, and represent Metropolitan South.

Sharing Expertise

On Tuesday 19th August, Peakhurst PS partnered with GRC Penshurst to showcase the work we are engaged in aligned to explicit teaching. We hosted Hilltop Rd PS, Greystanes HS, Sefton HS, Oatley West PS and Carlton South PS sharing our journey and participating in Learning Walks and Talks. We wanted to share a snapshot of each stage across the school to demonstrate the impact of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria and the Third Teacher on student learning. A huge thank you to KM and Mrs Maclachlan, and the maths groups taught by Mrs Kerasis, Mrs Pozoglou, Mrs Schafer, Mrs Dalton and Mrs Zell.

Community concerns with road crossing

It has been brought to the attention of the school students have been observed running across roads to enter or exit school. The school has two pedestrian crossings available for use and encourage everyone to access these.

Safety of our students near roads is paramount and reminders will be shared in the newsletter this week.

High School students on school grounds

Last week there was an increase of high school students accessing the school grounds before 3.20pm. We are unsure how the students are gaining access to the school before 3.20pm, and we will need to investigate this further. A group of students from GRC campuses used this access to enter C Block, take personal belongings from the bag racks and throw them around. Executive staff were able to intervene and move the students along, however this interrupted several classes and their learning.

If high school students are collecting siblings from school, they need to adhere to the same expectations as our community members and remain outside the school grounds until the gates open at 3.20pm.

If high school students continue to disrupt learning, names will be reported to the high school and families.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

  • Fathers Day Stall – The gifts have been purchased. We have enough volunteers. Pravina will send an email by the end of the week with the volunteer roster.

GENERAL BUSINESS:

  • Bank Accounts – Sarah M provided update on bank accounts. We have been in contact with the bank. Sarah is forwarding the minutes of the last meeting to the bank and they will move forward with the new account.

  • Disco – Sarah M to sent out email looking for volunteer committee. We need to choose a theme. Look at whether we need to order more glow sticks. We have plenty of the plain stick ones. Might need to order more of the novelty shaped ones as they were popular.

  • Grants – Moussa has submitted the grant application for the COLA.
