Year 5/6

Excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria
Last week, the Grade 5/6 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the National Gallery of Victoria to see the French Impressionism exhibition! We focused primarily on learning more about the Impressionism style, French language and French culture. We were lucky enough to start our visit with an educational talk on the history of Impressionism, before having the opportunity to explore the gallery ourselves. The students demonstrated great respect for the other people around us at the gallery, enthusiasm and passion towards the incredible works throughout the exhibition, and even a willingness to try out the Impressionist style themselves! It was an outstanding day.
Religion - Sacramental Studies
This week in RE, we continued our exploration of the Catholic Sacraments: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage and Holy Orders. We have learnt about the way these Sacraments deepen our connection with God and the world around us, mark important life events, and build our community of faith. We learnt about how these Sacraments are divided into Sacraments of Initiation, Healing and Service, and made connections between these themes and the experiences we have had in our own lives, in fairy tales and in fables. We made connections to Scripture by investigating the presence of the Sacraments in the New Testament, such as in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Acts 19:5-6 and James 5:14.
Next week we draw our attention primarily towards the Sacrament of Confirmation, as we prepare our Grade 5/6 students for their receiving of this Sacrament in Term 4.
