Term 3 Chess Invitational
On Friday, 12th September, O’Connor hosted Term 3’s Chess Invitational event. This saw over 40 students in attendance, from McCarthy Catholic College (MCC), Holy Trinity School (HTS), The Armidale School (TAS), and, of course, O’Connor Catholic College (OCC).
As part of the 2025 NSW Country Secondary Schools Knockout Chess Teams Competition, competitive matches were held between MCC and TAS, and MCC and HTS (OCC being knocked out in the last round of the competition).
The key focus of this event was to host a series of friendly matches between as many students as possible, allowing for the development of skills and providing a great opportunity to socialise with other keen chess players; and it was a success!
The event was held in the newly renovated Angela building, which all agreed looked great, and was followed up with a BBQ lunch, where students had further opportunities to mingle and share contact details. Thanks to Mr. Mark Honeysett, Mr. Matthew Griffin, Dominic Miller, Marko Mijajlovic, and Jackson Burton for running the BBQ.
Thanks also go to Mr Tonkin (TAS), Mr Nichols (MCC), and Mr Muggleton (HTS) for travelling to OCC and participating in the event.
Mr Luke Andrews
