Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

As we approach the end of Term Three, I'd like to acknowledge that it has been one of the busiest terms for both teachers and students. I extend my thanks to all staff, parents, and students for their hard work and dedication.

I encourage all parents to reach out to us for updates on the work students need to complete as the school year draws to a close. We also offer support for those applying for employment or TAFE programs. Horsham College provides excellent resources in the apprenticeship and traineeship areas, and we would be happy to arrange a time for students and parents to discuss these options with us.

Our groups continue to participate in fantastic opportunities in the community, and we thank all the community organisations who are willing to work with our staff and students.  Some recent highlights include:

  • Blue group visiting the Rupanyup Farming Museum and Tiny Goats farm with support from the Centre for Participation

  • Multiple groups being able to participate in local tree planting with support from HRCC and Landcare

We are also looking forward to our McKenzie Creek students participating in another day of circus activities with staff from the Connected Circus.  This was a real hit in term one, and we are excited to have them back next week.

As we approach the September break, please take care of yourselves and your children. If students are feeling stressed as we get closer to receiving results, don't hesitate to contact us. Horsham has a range of services available to support you through various situations, even when the school is closed.

Blue Group – Community Engagement

Students have been able to complete a range of community activities and opportunities throughout term 3, they have been able to attend the JRS Workshop to get the creative juices flowing as they had done some painting and ‘Minecraft’ inspired mosaic tiles.

Students had also volunteered to do some tree planting with Jennifer Gao from the Horsham Rural City Council. In total, 50 new trees and shrubs were planted at the intersection of Ballinger Street and Golf Course Road as a part of a local revegetation program.

Any student who would like to be involved in the Youth Nature Crew can register their interest by completing the following Google Form https://forms.office.com/r/4zx4jZx21c

McKenzie Creek

Students from McKenzie Creek were treated to a very special performance at the Horsham Town Hall by the talented cast of 13 the Musical. Students were inspired by the talent of all involved and admired their hard work and dedication.

Thank you to Miss Summerhayes & Freddy for assisting with the organisation of the day.

School Values Award

Congratulations to Tyler Vincent-Eustace in Year 7 who was the lucky recipient of the School Values Award draw, winning a Conway’s Family Pie voucher. He had received an entry after he was acknowledged for his enthusiasm in Home Economics. Well done, Tyler!

Welcome Jasper!

Staff and students from McKenzie Creek would like to welcome Jasper who has started at the Creek after relocating with his family from Adelaide. He has already made a great first impression and we thank the ‘Creekers’ for making him feel welcomed!

Senior 2 VCE VM & VPC

Tree Planting

On Wednesday 3rd September Senior 2 VCE VM & VPC participated in tree planning at Palm Avenue behind the old foundry building. The activity was run by Jennifer Gao from Landcare and the Horsham Rural City Council. Students planted over 110 trees and learned about the benefits to the environment of such an activity. Thank you to Jennifer for her efforts and support.
