From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to term 4, the most exciting and action-packed term of the year! It will be over before we know it. I hove everyone enjoyed the September holidays and trust you're all refreshed and ready to tackle the 10 weeks.
Exciting Kindergarten Update
We’re thrilled to share that the new kindergarten buildings were delivered to our school on Tuesday and Wednesday and are now being fitted out internally in preparation for opening in 2026. This is an exciting milestone in creating a wonderful early learning environment for our future Pegasus learners.
We’re also pleased to announce that the service provider will be Uniting, the same highly regarded organisation that operates Murrindal Kindergarten. Uniting has an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality early childhood education and care, and we’re delighted to be partnering with them for this important addition to our school community.
In the coming weeks, we will provide families with information about how to enrol or change their kindergarten preferences if they would like their child to attend the new service.
We look forward to sharing more updates with you as the build progresses!
Grade 4 Camp – Building Confidence, Connection and Independence
Last week, our Grade 4 students headed off to Camp Adanac for an exciting few days of adventure, teamwork and personal growth. School camps are a wonderful part of the primary school experience. They give students the opportunity to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zone and build important social and emotional skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Throughout the camp, students took part in a range of activities designed to encourage resilience, collaboration and independence. Whether it was tackling a physical challenge, working together to solve a problem or simply spending time away from home, each experience helped students grow in confidence and strengthen their connections with peers and teachers.
These experiences don’t just create special memories, they help shape the way students work with others, approach challenges and see themselves as capable and resourceful learners.
A huge thank you goes to our incredible staff who gave up time away from their own families to make this camp possible. Their support, care and enthusiasm ensured that every student had a positive and memorable experience.
Planning for 2026 Classes
The end of the school year will be here before we know it, and planning for 2026 class structures and placements is already underway.
If you have not yet enrolled your child for 2026, or know someone who hasn’t, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible. Early enrolments are essential for planning class numbers, staffing and learning programs. Likewise, if your family is not returning to Lysterfield Primary School in 2026, we ask that you notify the office in writing at your earliest convenience. This helps us plan accurately and ensure smooth transitions for all students.
Student Placement Considerations
In the coming weeks, teachers will begin the careful and considered process of creating classes for next year. This is something we take very seriously at LPS to ensure we provide the best possible learning and social environment for every student.
Each year, we receive a small number of parent requests regarding their child’s social, emotional, or academic needs. If there is important information you feel your child’s current teacher may not be aware of, and that should be considered as part of the 2026 class placement process, please put this in writing to me via the school email or deliver it to the office by Friday, 10th November. Please note: Requests for specific teachers will not be considered.
How Placements Are Decided
Our classroom teachers work closely together to place students in classes. As the professionals who see your child in a range of settings every day, they have a deep understanding of each student’s learning needs, peer connections and social-emotional development. Their knowledge is supported by data, observations, and input from specialists and support staff.
As we did last year, we’re letting families know the date of our student friendship request activity so you can have a conversation with your child beforehand.
Friendship request day: Tuesday, 11th November
If your child is absent on this day, their teacher will collect their friendship choices upon their return.
While we make every effort to place students with at least one of their nominated friends, this is balanced carefully with other academic and social considerations to ensure well-rounded and positive class groupings.
Requests Regarding Peer Placements
From time to time, families make requests for students not to be placed with other children. Please note:
- These requests are considered on a year-by-year basis and do not carry over from previous years.
- Requests must relate directly to your own child’s learning or wellbeing, not general concerns.
- We cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated, but they will be carefully reviewed.
We know that class placements are important to students and families, and we approach this process with great care, professional judgment and compassion. Our goal is to create balanced, supportive learning environments where every child can thrive academically and socially as part of our Pegasus Family.
Have a great weekend,
Adam Wight, Principal
