Network Festival 'Made of Stars
13th November 2024
St Vincent's College Ashfield
In the galaxy, a distant sight
Methuselah shines, a beacon bright.
Casting its light over us all,
As we watch it beam above in awe.
Methuselah, a star so old,
It saw the universe unfold.
“HD 140283!”
We would sing songs filled with glee.
Its light, a whisper from the past,
Tells tales of times that will forever last
Cosmic elder, enlighten us please
Every moment with you, we’d like to seize.
Born when the Earth was but a dream,
A stellar wonder, a celestial gleam.
A timeless marvel, a wonder to see,
May its light shine forever on me.
A twinkle in my eye
Be it the starlight or my elation
There is no such creation
as…
Wise Old Methuselah
Before a star shines bright in the night sky, it begins with just gas dust particles. These particles clump, and gravity pulls them together. A new star is born, and the energy lets it shine. Only now would it be in your sight when looking up at the night sky.
Our primary choir at St Martha’s performed an original song ‘Shine Our Way’, inspired by the phrase, ‘We are all made of stars’. We reflected on stars, especially the oldest, Methuselah (HD 140283). The primary choir brainstormed ideas and during the holiday break these were used by Mr Wood (Mrs Wood’s husband) to string the ‘dust particles’ (our ideas) into one composition for two part choir, violins, cellos, synthesiser, piano and windchimes, which was a beginning of a new star. The choir and instrumentalists faithfully gave up every Wednesday lunch to practise the song and our talents indeed flourished.
The Network Festival is one that combines many performances into one. This year, the theme was ‘Made of Stars’ where there was a play about talented students trying to join a strict show which brought it all together. On Tuesday the 12th and Wednesday the 13th, the choir travelled to St Vincent’s College Ashfield to rehearse our song along with several other performances from other schools. This was our first time experiencing being on the stage, and watching other performances.
On the Wednesday night, we met up at the school and watched the official beginning of the Network Festival. We enjoyed other schools’ performances as we waited for our star to shine. On stage, we truly shone as bright as diamonds as we showed everyone the greatness of wise, old Methuselah.
