Electronics and Robotics

On the 28th of October, students in 7.7 ran a game jam session. In the game jam students presented their personal arcade games which they made to each other for testing and feedback. After almost 8 weeks of development the games where finally ready for testing, with many students having produced playable demonstrations along with posters and instructions.

It was fantastic to see the variety of games students on offer, and the session was very lively and active as the student's test played each other's games.

Year 8 and 9 Boys cricket – Diamond Valley vs St.Helena. (Wed Oct 23rd)

In overcast conditions with a damp surface at Eltham Lower Park, Diamond Valley batted first. Based on a number of valuable partnerships, the team attained an excellent score of 8- 137 off 25 overs. (James Walton 28 no, Lachie Della-Vadova (25), Josh Ludlow (14), Ben Hodgson (14), Will Varley (13)).

Once the sun came out, St. Helena struggled from the first over and could not get the bat onto the ball. Superb bowling from Lachie Della-Vadova, (3- 1) and Eden Harris, (2- 3) were supported by Zach Thomas(1-1), Ben Hodgson (1-2), Matthew Stokes (1-5) and Hamish Day (1- 12) ensured St. Helena were under pressure throughout their innings. Great fielding by the whole team which included Noah Carroll, Chase Kinash, Harper Owen kept the pressure on St. Helena who only managed to score 47 off 15.1 overs.

Many thanks to Zac Versteegen and Matthew Parsons of Year 10, who assisted with the team organisation and umpiring.

Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition

This year, we kept high the bar at the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition.  After the first prize of Phoebe Whitworth last year, this year we have had a number of finalists and a silver medal for Zoe Fitzpatrick, in the category of year 11 Non-Italian.

I attended the awards celebration where I enjoyed a very entertaining ceremony and witnessed the happiness and the sense of pride of the students and their super happy families. I did feel really proud of the students of DVC who have memorised a poem in Italian and managed to recite it in front of a jury.

The winners of the first prize of each category did that in front of a wonderful audience at CoAsIt on the 17th of October. Unfortunately, Zoe was not there, but I am sure that she will try to win again next year as many other students will. Congratulations to all those who participated and tried their best!
