Congratulations to Archie Elliott, Archie Hogan and James Burton who have qualified for the School Sport Victoria Athletics State Titles on Monday 21st October at Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne. Last week, the Year 7 Boys competed in the Black Ranges Cricket tournament. With only 2 schools represented, it was winner takes all in a single game of 30 overs each.
Our team batted first, and comfortably saw out their 30 overs (Joel Plazzer 39, Hugh Miller 38), finishing with a score of 3/123. In return, the opposition made it an exciting game, but were bowled out for 106 with 8 overs remaining. Our bowlers had five different wicket takers, and they never dropped a catch in the field. An all-round team effort contributed to the success of their day, and has qualified them to compete at the Greater Western Region tournament in a few weeks.
Our Year 8 Boys team played on Wednesday, playing three, ten over matches. The team were comfortable victors in their first two matches, winning by 20 runs and 26 runs. Opening batsmen, Jon Gardiner and Jobe Van Zelst, made plenty of runs, and many bowlers took wickets. In the third and final match, the team came up against the undefeated team from Marian College. Despite a great effort by our bowlers and the entire team in the field, Marian chased down our score of 48 with 14 balls remaining.
Well done to all students for their participation and efforts!
A group of our Year 7 boys attended the Black Ranges tennis tournament on Monday. The squad of six players went undefeated in their pool matches, finishing at the top of their group. Advancing to the Grand Final, they put up a strong fight, splitting the doubles matches but ultimately falling 3-1 in the singles. The team showcased excellent sportsmanship and represented St Brigid's admirably. They’re already looking forward to giving it another shot next year!
