Principal's Report
Dear families,
Today we celebrate world teachers’ day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers as St Brigid’s for their care of our students and their effort in enhancing learning.
Thinking back to your time at school, there is no doubt a mix of emotions from the sublime to the ridiculous. However, there would be no doubt at least one teacher who you remember with fondness who may have had a profound impact on your life. In my 35 years in education, the role has certainly changed dramatically; the level of compliance and external expectations has risen exponentially and too often teachers are being dragged away from their core business of teaching. I know myself, that I look forward to ‘escaping’ to a classroom where I can just focus on teaching without the ‘noise’ of the emails, phone calls or administration that fill up my days. It truly is a blessing to be a teacher and watch students develop with your guidance. So thank you to all teachers today, and to all students who give us the opportunity to follow our passion.
This week we farewelled our Year 12 cohort at a student run assembly. There is always great amusement as the students look back at their time at St Brigid’s and some sadness as they move to the next exciting chapter of their life journey. I would like to wish all of those students completing exams over the next few weeks all the best and hope that they receive the results they deserve.
On Monday 28 October, we will be welcoming students from St Patrick’s Nhill, SMJ and Our Lady’s Murtoa, to come to the school for a “high school experience”. While the students are visiting us, we will also welcome Bishop Paul Bird to our school as he tours the Diocese as part of the 150th Anniversary of the Ballarat Diocese.
On the 4th November, the staff at St Brigid’s will continue their work with the Leading Teams organisation to further develop cultural aspects of our organisation. This will be a student free day, with the following day being a public holiday for the Melbourne Cup.
Stay safe
