Chaplaincy Fundraiser Dinner 2024
The Parkland Golf course was the venue for the annual Chaplaincy fundraiser dinner on Friday 11 October, where over a hundred people gathered around the tables that were adorned with Richmond footy balloons.
The guest speaker was the AFL Richmond footy Chaplain and ex homicide detective Geoff Shepherd. He spoke of his time in Homicide and shared a story of a young girl and her plight as her father was being arrested in front of her. He also spoke on the generosity of two Richmond AFL ex- footballers who assisted in feeding many people in the Covid time in the Philippines, when they had no food as there is no welfare there.
Chantelle, a student from Ky P -12 sang a song beautifully and entertained the crowd.
Well done Chantelle.
Assistant Principal Billy Barnes, spoke in great support of Chaplaincy for Liz Spicer and David Czech, Kyabram P-12 Chaplains.
Richard Kolega from Korus Connect spoke of the unique set up of having a full time Chaplain (Liz Spicer). The community has raised and facilitated this role for 23 years.
What a wonderful community!
Liz thanked everyone for the recognition of her Order of Australia Medal as the video was shown of her receiving it at Government House earlier this year and she said “that it was not only her medal but the community’s medal for everyone who has supported Chaplaincy". Liz also spoke about the way Chaplaincy supports students in all sorts of ways such as an outlet for students to have a chat about their achievements and challenges as well as warm fresh toasties and fruit which the students very much enjoy. Students mentioned that it was a safe place to gather, and they enjoy having this help and support.
If you haven’t been able to attend and would like to donate to Chaplaincy please contact the college.
Kind regards,
Liz Spicer
