Kindergarten orientation
Early in the term we had our final Kindergarten Orientation session, it was so encouraging to see so many parents, grandparents and carers in attendance. We were able to communicate what kindergarten will look like in 2025, share the many learning and wellbeing opportunities our school has to offer. At the time, we mentioned a staggered start for our Kindergartens, however the Department of Education has now advised that all students (including kindergarten) will start term 1 to on Thursday 6 February, 2025. Start times will be 9.00-3.00. The Best Start Assessment will be conducted during the normal school day between weeks 3 and 5..
If you are new to the area and are yet to enrol, please contact our office between 9am and 3pm and our School Administration Manager, Mrs Tisma will talk you through the process. It is never too late to enrol! Mrs Judd
K-2 Spelling Bee
On Thursday 31 October, K-2 students took the spotlight in an exciting Spelling Bee! It was inspiring to see our young learners showcase their hard work, bravery, and love for words in front of teachers, classmates, and proud families.
A huge thank you to Miss Hickox for organising this fantastic event and creating a memorable experience for our budding spellers.
Grandparent and Friends Day
Our recent Grandparents and Friends Day was a wonderful event that brought students and their families together for an afternoon of fun and learning. The day kicked off with grandparents joining their grandchildren on the playground, where they enjoyed playful moments and created lasting memories. After some outdoor fun, grandparents gathered for a light afternoon tea, followed by visits to the classrooms. Grandparents and families had the opportunity to participate in literacy and maths activities alongside their grandchildren, fostering a strong sense of connection and pride. It was heartwarming to see the students so eager to share their learning experiences with their family members, making it a truly special day for all involved. Mrs Mac
Wellbeing program
During the first five weeks of this term, Kindergarten students have been focusing on understanding their brains and emotions. They’ve learnt about the "upstairs" and "downstairs" brain to explore how our thinking and emotional brains work together. Students discovered that when we "flip our lid," it can be difficult to think clearly or stay calm. In 3/4C, students focused on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Connection, Give, Keep Learning, Take Notice, and Be Active.
Through picture books like Ice Cream Had a Meltdown, they discussed what causes big emotions—such as feeling scared, frustrated, or overwhelmed—and how their bodies react (e.g., heart racing, hands shaking). Students also explored how they act during these times, including becoming upset, withdrawing, or reacting impulsively. Creative arts activities, like making mandalas, allowed students to connect with their emotions and each other through group work. These SEL activities are helping students better understand their emotions, how their bodies react, and how to manage big feelings, while building positive connections with their peers in a supportive school environment.
Ms Cram
Given the enromous success of this program this year, I am pleased to announce that we have extended Ms Cram's Wellbeing Teacher role into 2025 (2 days-per-week).

P&C Halloween Disco
Our P&C Halloween Disco in the Tarrawanna Public School hall on 31 October was a night to remember! The students, along with parents and carers, enjoyed an evening filled with dancing, spooky tunes from our fantastic DJs, and a delicious BBQ that kept everyone energised. Smiles lit up the room as students showed off their creative, spooky costumes. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated P&C for organising this wonderful event and supporting our school, with funds going toward the Year 6 farewell. We’re truly grateful for our incredible school community! Ms Deacon
Racism at school
Ms Deacon, our Anti-racism Contact Officer (ARCO) has been working with staff around understanding the impact of racism in its many forms. This professional learning fostered some really passionate and vulnerable discussion around this challenging topic, with a commitment from all staff to stamp out racism. We continue to work on strategies to better educate our students, and to respond more effectively to incidents of racism within our community. Mr Hopkins
3/4C and 4/5B UOW Science Space Excursion
Students in 3/4C and 4/5B had a great start to term 4 with an exciting excursion to the UOW Science Space. This hands-on experience offered students a unique opportunity to dive into the world of science through engaging activities and interactive exhibits. From exploring fascinating physics demonstrations to experimenting with optical illusions, each student had the chance to see science in action. The trip not only enriched their understanding of scientific concepts but also encouraged teamwork, critical thinking and a love for learning. Students returned inspired, bringing their newfound knowledge back to the classroom for further exploration. Mr Bray and Mr Chadwick
Year 5 & 6 Movie Excursion
Students in years 5 and 6 enjoyed watching The Wild Robot at the cinema. The book on which the movie is based is being used as a quality text for English in classrooms across NSW. If you haven't yet seen this incredible film, we highly recommend it.
As Will in 4/5B put it..."It's the best film of 2020s so far. Cred!"
The staff at Event Cinemas commented on the respectful behaviour of Tarrawanna students. We are very proud! Ms Deacon.
Children's Week
Friday Fun Day was the best way to wrap up Children's Week, following a leadership workshop earlier in the week! Our year 5 students enjoyed a great couple of hours eating, playing and painting. Thanks for hosting us, Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre!
CBCA lunch
On Tuesday 29 October, eight of our avid readers participated in the Illawarra Kids Literary Lunch. Students got to meet a range of different authors, while participating in a collaborative story writing challenge.
PSSA AFL
Students in Stage 2 have been enthusiastically participating in the PSSA* AFL program since Week 3. For many, AFL was a fresh experience, but that didn’t hold them back from diving in with determination and team spirit. Each week, students have shown steady improvement in their skills, building confidence and a deeper understanding of the game. More importantly, they’ve approached each match with respect and sportsmanship, showing support for one another and cheering on both teammates and opponents alike.

Therapy Dog
Weekly visits from Quinnie the therapy dog have bene very well received by students in 3/4C and 4/5B. Quinnie loves being taken for walks and being stroked, and the students find her very calming. Our plan is to continue this program into 2025, rotating across two different classes each term.
