Principal's Message

Dear Sacred Heart Community,

We’ve had a busy and exciting fortnight, with lots to celebrate and look forward to in the weeks ahead. Here’s a brief update on recent events and upcoming happenings at our school.

Year 5/6 Canberra Excursion Meeting

A special thank you to all the parents who attended the Year 5/6 Excursion Meeting on Tuesday 8th October.  We greatly appreciate your engagement and enthusiasm as we prepare of this exciting adventure with our students.  A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 Student Leaders for their comprehensive presentation and exceptional organisation in preparing what is sure to be a wonderful camp for our students.

Warm Weather and Lunchboxes

As the weather warms up, we kindly remind parents to keep their children's lunchboxes cool by including soft ice bricks or ice packs in their bags. With the installation of the Quadrangle Shade Sail over the coming weeks, bags will be out of direct sunlight, but having icepacks will help keep food fresh.  There are a range of food storage options available that provide an icepack, or space for an ice brick to keep food cool.

School Advisory Council Meeting

The School Advisory Council meeting will take place next Wednesday 23rd October (week 3 not week 4 as previously stated).

Families leaving Sacred Heart School at the end of 2024

Any families leaving Sacred Heart School at the end of 2024 are asked to please notify the school as soon as possible in order to assist with planning and classes for 2025.

Sacred Heart Arts & Contemporary Learning Building Official Opening

We are thrilled to announce that the official opening date for our Arts & Contemporary Learning Spaces has been secured.  On Thursday, 14th November 2024, we will be honoured to have Bishop Shane Mackinlay and Catholic Education Sandhurst Executive Director, Kate Fogarty, join us for this exciting occasion. The opening will take place in our Quadrangle from 2:15pm to 3:15pm. In conjunction with the official opening, our Year 5/6 Learning Environments will undergo a 'soft' makeover, with new carpet and furniture being installed. This is part of our commitment to upgrading the physical learning spaces within the school to align with contemporary teaching practices based on global 'evidence rich' research.

I have include a couple of classroom designs to showcase some of the furniture being installed into the Year 5/6 Learning Environments.

Stay tuned for more exciting information on future renovations, particularly in our Foundation to Year 3/4 Learning Environments, as we prepare for the 2025 academic school year.

Celebrating 150 Years of Tatura

Throughout this week, our students have been actively participating in learning experiences related to Tatura's 150th anniversary. Activities have included designing postcards showcasing and promoting our beautiful town, visiting the local museum, engaging in traditional 'old-time' dancing, and concluding with a special Liturgy at Sacred Heart Church. Tatura is a wonderful place to live, learn, and grow, and we have enjoyed learning and celebrating its rich history with our students.

Student Mobile Phone at School

We kindly remind all families that students are not permitted to use or access their mobile phones during school hours. Should parents need to communicate with their child, please do so via the School Office. Additionally, if students feel unwell, they are encouraged to speak with their class teacher, and if needed, they will be sent to the School Office where we will contact you directly. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our school remains a focused and child-safe learning environment.

Thank You to Mr. Tartaglia

We would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated groundskeeper, Mr. Tartaglia, for his hard work and commitment over the holidays. Thanks to his efforts, our school grounds continue to look beautiful for the benefit of our students/families. From maintaining the gardens, repairing watering-systems, to ensuring the play areas are safe and well-kept, his dedication truly needs to be commended.

I’ve included a couple of photos showcasing his incredible work, and we are so fortunate to have someone who takes such pride in caring for our school. Thank you, Mr. Tartaglia, from the staff, students and families of Sacred Heart School!

Thank you parents for your ongoing support and dedication to our Sacred Heart School community. Together, we continue to create an environment where our students thrive, feel safe, valued and respected, and are inspired to reach their full potential.

God bless,

Jamie McDowall
