CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week in Reading, we are learning about questioning the text to deepen our understanding.
VOCABULARY
Questions - something we ask that we want to find out the answer to.
Our questions can be based on 5W’s - and H: who, what, when, where, why, how
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to select a text (it can be fiction or non-fiction) from either their blue satchel or a book from home or the public library.
Before opening the text, engage in a discussion with your child about what they see, think and wonder based on the title and illustrations on the front/back covers.
Ask your child if they have any questions, they may want to know the answers to about this book. Help them frame the questions based on 5 Ws and H
After your discussion, read through the text with your child, keeping in mind those questions that your child asked before reading, and see if your child can identify the answers to any of these questions as they are reading. (We may or may not be able to answer all of the questions).
Your child may even ask more questions throughout reading the text together, encourage that skill.
