Behaviour and Engagement Framework – Supporting Our Students
The past fortnight, students in Years 7–11 participated in an extended morning assembly introducing the College’s Behaviour and Engagement Framework. The presentation provided students with a clear understanding of the expectations that guide behaviour, learning and relationships within our school community.
The Framework is designed to support students to make positive and responsible choices and to understand that their behaviour has an impact on their own learning, the learning of others and the wider College community. Importantly, the focus is not simply on responding to inappropriate behaviour, but on creating the conditions in which all students can feel safe, respected, supported and ready to learn.
During the assembly, students were taken through the key expectations of the framework and what these look like in everyday school life. This included expectations around respectful behaviour, engagement in learning, following staff directions, appropriate use of technology, interactions with peers and taking responsibility for individual choices.
Students were also reminded that positive behaviour and engagement are a shared responsibility. Every student contributes to the culture of the College through the way they speak to others, participate in their learning, respond to challenges and make decisions throughout the school day.
An important part of the framework is consistency and clarity. When students understand what is expected of them and know that these expectations are applied consistently, they are better placed to make appropriate choices. The framework also provides opportunities for students to reflect on their behaviour, learn from mistakes, repair relationships where necessary and move forward positively.
The presentation to students is part of our ongoing commitment to working in partnership with families to support the wellbeing, learning and personal development of every young person. We encourage parents and carers to speak with their children about the Behaviour and Engagement Framework and the important role each student plays in maintaining a safe, respectful and positive learning environment.
By maintaining clear expectations and working together as students, staff and families, we can continue to build a College community where students are supported to engage fully in their learning, develop positive relationships and take increasing responsibility for the choices they make.
