4 - NATIONAL ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CHILDREN'S DAY
This day recognizes and celebrates the strengths and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The 2025 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme Little Footsteps, Big Future honours the journeys children take as they grow - each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.
9 - RAKSHA BANDHAN
Raksha Bandhan is a popular Hindu festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. The festival is celebrated differently in many different parts of India but usually the family gets together in their fancy clothes and they eat lots of delicious food and Indian sweets.
During the festival the sister ties a rakhi on her brother's wrist and the brother wishes that their sister is happy and healthy. A rakhi is a piece of thread traditionally made from cotton but, nowadays rakhis are very colourful with many different designs.
16 - KRISHNA JANMASHTAMI
One of the most important Hindu festivals, this day celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna, believed to be the eighth reincarnation/avatar of Lord Vishnu, who gave the vital message of the Bhagwat Gita - the guiding principles for every Hindu.
19 - TANABATA (Star Festival)
The Tanabata - たなばた or 七夕 meaning "Evening of the seventh", is also known as the Star Festival (星祭 Hoshimatsuri). The Tanabata Festival is widely celebrated all over Japan, and people partake in some unique traditions to celebrate the day. A popular custom celebrated during the Tanabata celebration is to write wishes on small, colourful strips of paper (tanzaku) and tie them with ribbon onto the branches of specially erected bamboo trees. People then make a wish and hope it comes true. Traditional decorations also include talismans with colourful streamers.
The traditional date for Tanabata is the 19th August, However, many regions and modern city centers across Japan celebrate the festival earlier, peaking around July 7th.
