Parental engagement recognises the important role that both parents and teachers play in developing positive attitudes towards learning and education for children, building their motivation and confidence as learners, and fostering their enjoyment of learning. Parents and families play an important role in supporting their child's education.
Research has shown that when schools and families work together, children do better, stay in school longer, are more engaged with their schoolwork, attend school more regularly, behave better and have better social skills. Parent engagement also results in longer-term economic, social and emotional benefits.
In Week 10, we invite parents and carers to come to school to meet their child’s teachers.
Teacher’s Role: Teachers will facilitate the meeting and give insight into how your child has started the school year.
Parent’s Role: Parents will give teachers any information they feel is relevant for the academic, social and emotional support they will require at school.
Child’s Role: To share their ideas about where they feel they are doing well and which areas they are looking to grow and further develop this year.
As the year progresses, it is hoped that the students will be able to share their achievements with their teachers and parents. We hope that this process will not only help instil student responsibility but also make it easier for you as parents to engage with your child about their learning.
Parent/Teacher/Student conferences will take place in Week 10, from 22nd - 24th of June. These 15-minute interviews are conducted face to face in your child's classroom. Your child is encouraged to attend. Parents are able to make a booking online via Compass.

Designed to cultivate self-compassion and encourage positive self-talk, this simple yet impactful activity is a stepping stone towards building unshakeable confidence in your child.
What is the NCCD?
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year.
The NCCD is a collection that counts:
Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This help allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without a disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Schools provide this information to education authorities.

In deciding whether identified students are to be included in the NCCD, teachers and school teams use their professional judgement, based on evidence, to determine the level of adjustment each student is currently being provided with.
In the NCCD, there are four levels of adjustment:
The frequency and intensity of the adjustments increases through the levels of adjustment.
Teachers and schools rely on evidence to make professional judgements about the adjustments provided for students. This evidence will reflect a wide range of practices of teachers and schools in meeting the educational needs of their students consistent with obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and best teaching practice.

Term 2: Presentations: Years 2 - 6
Use these KAPLAN prompts to help you with your research:
Details
| Traits, attributes, characteristics to describe something; the defining characteristics/ the evidence to support ideas and opinions
|
|
|

The Details icon challenges students to determine the key facts, traits, parts, or elements of the content. Learners are tasked with looking for the vital details or characteristics to define the topic of study.
Big Idea
| When students think about the Big Idea of a topic, we’re looking for a statement that sums up the content. |
|
|

The Big Idea prompt (represented by the pillar/temple icon) asks students to identify, generalise, and summarise core principles or themes from a study. It forces learners to move beyond facts to formulate a central, supported theory. Key questions include identifying the main message, summarising content, and relating it to other subjects or the real world.
Each year, Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) provides time for Staff Development Days (SDD), which provides professional learning time for all staff. St Anthony's will provide supervision for ALL Staff Development Days from Monday, 30 March. Parents will need to register.
