Year 4 News

What a busy and exciting Week 5 we have had in our classroom! We have loved welcoming our wonderful work experience students into our learning space this week.
They have been fantastic helpers, supporting students during lessons, joining in classroom activities, and sharing their enthusiasm for learning with us. The students have loved getting to know them and learning alongside them throughout the week.
As mathematicians, students have been exploring 2D shapes, identifying their features and investigating lines of symmetry. We continue to work towards students' fluency with timetables. Please support them at home with this.
As readers, our Storm Boy novel study continues as students deepen their understanding of characters, themes, and important events in the story. They have been making thoughtful connections between the text and their own experiences while developing their comprehension skills through discussion and reflection.
As inquirers, students engaged in a Chalk Talk activity to unpack and share their prior knowledge about Australia and how exploration has shaped its history and development. Through silent written discussion, students were able to record their ideas, build on the thinking of others, and make connections between different perspectives. This collaborative approach encouraged deep thinking and helped students begin to explore the impact of exploration on Australia in a meaningful and reflective way.
As a Catholic Learning Community, we have been reflecting on The Road to Emmaus and exploring how the disciples’ understanding changed when their eyes were opened to Jesus. Students have engaged thoughtfully in discussion and reflection, making meaningful connections to times when something has suddenly made sense for them. We also continued developing our singing voices as we practised songs for upcoming Masses and liturgies.
This week, our learning will include:
Numeracy: Two-dimensional shapes
Literacy: Storm Boy Novel Study
Writing: Information Reports
Spelling: The graph /e/ making the sound “eh” as in garden.
Inquiry: Exploration: How did it Shape Australia?
