Year 3 News

We’ve had another interesting and exciting week of learning in Year 3!

As readers, we have begun the short novel Yirra and Her Deadly Dog, Demon by Anita Heiss, a light-hearted contemporary story about a 10-year-old Indigenous girl, Yirra, who is determined to train her chaotic and mischievous dog, Demon, before his antics force her to give him away. Through engaging discussions, we have explored the story's rich vocabulary, characters, themes, and key events.

As writers, we have written and published summary paragraphs of the narrative non-fiction text Finding Our Heart and, inspired by the imagery in the story, created illustrations to complement our writing.

As mathematicians, we have continued to build our understanding of length. We have been learning to estimate, measure, and compare objects using millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres. Using metric tools such as rulers and tape measures, we have enjoyed estimating and measuring items around the classroom.

As a faith-filled learning community, we explored how the story of the Road to Emmaus connects to the four parts of the Mass: We Gather, We Listen, We Give Thanks, and We Go. Students discussed how the followers walked alongside Jesus, listened to Him explain the Scriptures, shared a meal with Him and then set off with joy and purpose to spread the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. Through class discussions and activities, students deepened their understanding of how these same parts are reflected in the celebration of the Mass each week.

National Walk to School Day

On Friday, as a whole school community, we took part in National Walk to School Day. Many families walked from Shore Reserve to the school before enjoying a nutritious breakfast with friends and family. It was a wonderful initiative that promoted healthy lifestyles, community connection, and the importance of being active together.
