Year 2 News

We have had another fantastic week in Year 2, with fun learning opportunities!
As a Catholic Learning Community, we have continued learning about The Road to Emmaus. We both read and listened to the story to develop a deeper understanding of its message and meaning. Working independently or in pairs, we created a comic that showed how we visualised the different parts of the story. Through this activity, we explored the important events and emotions within the scripture while practising our teamwork and creativity. We will continue working on our comics over the coming weeks.
As Mathematicians, we have been learning about subtraction and using our knowledge of addition to help us build fact families:
If I know 2 + 3 = 5 I also know… 3 + 2 = 5 5 - 2 = 3 5 - 3 = 2 | If I know 12 + 3 = 15 I also know… 3 + 12 = 15 15 - 3 = 12 15 - 12 = 3 | If I know 122 + 3 = 125 I also know… 3 + 122 = 125 125 - 122 = 3 125 - 3 = 122 |
We explored how addition and subtraction are connected and used this understanding to solve related number sentences. We practised using fact families to build fluency with numbers and develop confidence when solving problems.

As Inquirers, we participated in our incursion ‘Toys Through Time’. We engaged in four different stations: Imagination, Movement, Skills and Construction, where we explored and played with a variety of old and new toys. We saw toys that our parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents may have played with when they were children. Through these hands-on experiences, we investigated how toys have changed over time, including the materials they are made from and the different ways children play. We also explored how technology has influenced toys through time, with many modern toys now including lights, sounds, screens and interactive features.
As Resilient Learners, we have been learning about our happiness super power. We explored the different things that help us feel happy, calm and connected to others. Through class discussions and activities, we practised ways to spread happiness by showing kindness, gratitude and positivity towards our classmates and community.
Finally, we would like to say a big “thank you” to our year 10 work experience students, Zac and Sarah, who joined us for the week from Strathmore Secondary College. We appreciate your patience, time and effort over the last week, and we wish you all the best with your future studies.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Subtraction
- Literacy: Persuasive writing
- Spelling: Review week
- Inquiry: Technology
- Religion: The Eucharist
Just a gentle reminder to please fill in your child’s Reading Log each night and record the book they are reading, as well as check over their spelling homework. These will be collected and checked on Fridays.
Thank you for your continued support!
Have a wonderful week!
Year 2 Team,
Sarah Hogan and Nadia Ascenzo
