Year 7 Art
Here’s a few snapshots of students exploring the artforms of painting and drawing, using the mediums of watercolour paint and acrylic markers. They researched places that held meaning to them, or places they wished to visit, using Google Earth and Google Maps to screenshot a good composition to draw and paint. They sketched ideas in their visual diary to work out how they could include the art elements like line, shape, colour, and the principle of pattern in their final masterpieces.
Year 8 Art
It feels like ages ago the Year 8 students were making their ceramic vessels, and it was, creating ceramics is an art process that takes time. Once students clay work is completed, they underglaze their work, giving it a colour using essentially what is a watered-down coloured clay called ‘slip’. It’s then ready for the first fire in the kiln, where it reaches temperatures above 1000 degrees. After two days in the kiln, the work is ready for the gloss glaze, then fired in the kiln again. This is honestly my favourite part of the process, because the gloss glaze liquifies, then hardens into a clear glass like coating on the ceramics. This not only makes the work look great, but it also allows the vessel to be waterproof.
Year 9 Art
Students this term applied techniques they explored in Term 1 to create their own finished artwork for display. They were given choice of the style they wished to pursue but had to follow the theme of ‘still life’ and focus on creating a balanced composition. They learnt about composition rules, and applied them to a still life set up, recording it photographically before creating a final artwork.
There is a lot more student work we would love to show; such as the Year 7 1-point perspective drawings and the Year 8 isometric drawings; we just need to get a moment to scan them in! Keep an eye out for the next newsletter, more images coming soon!
