Year 12 Chemistry | Year 12 Physics | Farewell Mr Cooper
Our Year 12 Chemistry students jumped straight into practical work this year by making biodiesel from canola oil, methanol and potassium hydroxide. Biodiesel has similar properties to diesel produced from fossil fuels but it can be made from waste oils, such as those in fish and chip shops. The major countries which use biodiesel are Indonesia, the US and Brazil.
Students are investigating circular motion, which underpins our understanding of the orbits of planets, how loop-the-loops on roller coasters work and even part of why we think dark matter must exist.
At the end of 2023, the science staff and students said farewell to Mr Chris 'Coops' Cooper, as he headed off to take up a new position at a school in Western Australia.
Although it was so sad to see such a talented teacher leave, we all wished him well for his new adventure. It's good to see some of the amazing photos of his new life!
