From the  Principal

Karen Roberts

Dear Families,

WELCOME to the 2024 school year.

Our newsletter provides a forum for education. The principal's message serves as a vital channel to achieve three key objectives:

1. Educate: The messages are crafted to provide insights into educational initiatives, policies, and developments within the school. We aim to keep you informed about educational methodologies, curriculum updates, and advancements that impact your child's learning experience.

2. Inform: It is our commitment to keep you informed about important events, dates, and changes within the school community. We share updates on achievements, recognitions, and milestones of both students and staff.

3. Stimulate Interest in Education: By offering a glimpse into the exciting world of education, we hope to spark your interest and engagement. The messages are designed to showcase the dynamic and enriching educational environment we strive to create, fostering a sense of pride and enthusiasm for learning.

If there are specific topics or areas you would like us to address in future messages, please feel free to reach out.

In our first edition for 2024, I wanted to focus on Building Trust: A Foundation for Success in Our School Community”.

As we embrace the new academic year, I find myself reflecting on the vital role that trust plays in fostering a positive and thriving school environment. Trust is the cornerstone upon which strong relationships are built, and it is the heart of a successful school community.

Trust is not just an ideal. When parents, teachers, and administrators trust one another, we create an environment where students feel safevalued, and supported. This atmosphere is essential for optimal learning and personal growth.

One of the key elements of building trust is effective communication. As a school community, we are committed to transparent and open communication. Whether through newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, or regular updates, we aim to keep you informed about our goals, initiatives, and the progress of your child. When everyone is on the same page, it fosters a sense of unity and trust.

Trust also plays a crucial role in decision-making. Our school is fortunate to have a dedicated team of educators and administrators who are passionate about creating the best possible learning environment for our students. When trust is present, it empowers our teachers and administrators to make decisions confidently, knowing they have the support of the entire community.

I encourage you to actively participate in our school community and engage in open dialogue with your child's teachers and our administrative team. Your insights and feedback are invaluable as we work together to shape the future of our school. Trust is a two-way street, and your confidence in us allows us to better serve the needs of your child.

In the coming months, we have exciting plans and initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall educational experience for our students. Your trust and support are instrumental in the success of these endeavours, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.

Together, we can ensure that CPS remains a place where trust, collaboration, and excellence thrive.

STAFF LEARNING and WELCOMES

Our staff participated in 2 days of professional learning at the start of the year. We revisited our school motto of Welcoming Engaging Achieving and reflected on our school’s goals and strategies for 2024. What an exciting year of learning we have planned.

All staff completed Level 2 First Aid training last Tuesday to ensure the safety and well being of our students. It has been a terrific commitment from all and we look forward to looking after your children to the very best of our ability.

We also welcome Christine Kim to CPS; our school nurse, another first for CPS. Christine will be working 5 days a week during recess and lunch times to provide first aid and continue to educate our staff and students of the importance of their health and wellbeing.

We welcome new families to Carnegie across the school, as well as our new preps. I am sure the whole community joins me in welcoming you too.

We also welcome new staff to Carnegie Primary School.

START UP

Our students have been spending time engaging in activities in their classroom and learning teams as they focus on our ‘Start Up’ program in these first 2 weeks. This initiative offers all students and teachers the opportunity to form positive and respectful connections.

We focus on:

  • Students getting to know their new classes and the daily routines
  • Establishing positive, engaging learning environments where each child feels valued
  • Developing clear, shared expectations and processes for classrooms and learning teams
  • Encouraging a sense of responsibility and active involvement in decision making
  • An awareness of the behaviours that demonstrate the values we hold
  • Support for self-directed learning
