A little more on music exams
Whilst music exams are a great progress/milestone marker and provides a practice and learning boost for the students, music exams should not be (by no means) the main learning goal or progress marker in their music lesson journey.
A question we are often asked by parents is "When can my child do exams"? We appreciate parents often see exams as something familiar - a good external validation of success and progress. Whilst we agree that the process of preparation gives the student a good learning pathway, we need to be mindful that it is not the end all in measuring the student's many successes. These include performing solo in class as well as in numerous soirees or recitals solo or ensemble before various audience and coming up with his/her own accompaniment which could lead to composing or arranging of songs/music.
If your child has been attending the Forte piano courses, here is some information that
would help you understand our Foundation exams.
Following the achievement of the GOLD LEVEL exam/Creative Keys 1, your child will go on to CREATIVE KEYS 2 and could continue to aim towards an AMEB music exam (either Preliminary level - Piano for Leisure, Piano Comprehensive or the ROCK SCHOOL - Piano) syllabus. The Rock School syllabus is great as the syllabus is well designed and is more suited for those students who are more inclined towards playing contemporary rock and pop music.
We are working towards a learning program for identified CKC2 graduates who wish to proceed to the AMEB exam pathway. Please contact Ms Pik for further information.
