A letter from Mr. Andrew Arney
Welcome back to our first newsletter for 2024!
I am so happy to see everyone back after the holidays. The sense of purpose, positivity and energy that our students and staff have brought to the first two weeks of 2024 has been outstanding, and it promises to be a cracker of a year.
I would like to thank the wonderful Rachel de la Paz in the Library once again for pulling this newsletter together, as well as our many other contributors. If you have any comments or suggestions please do not hesitate to reach out!
High Expectations
2023 was a year where we saw lots and lots of changes, and as the year went on, we steadily increased our expectations of our students as learners and members of the Glenroy community.
We will unashamedly continue to have these High Expectations for Glenroy students this year. That will be in our expectations around behaviour, student readiness to learn, student work ethic, and of course we will have High Expectations for student academic growth.
We set High Expectations because we know our students can meet them, and that in meeting these High Expectations they can achieve and grow into the adults they want to be
We are of course going to continue making improvements to the school environment, continue to seek opportunities for students like camps and excursions, and we are going to continue having focus groups so we can hear from students and families about what you want to see in our school.
It promises to be a fabulous year and I can’t wait for you to see what our students can achieve!
Swimming Carnival and House Sports
We are thrilled to announce that 2024 will see the rejuvenation of the Glenroy College House Cup. The house system at Glenroy hasn’t been active for many years, and we are eager to start it back up to give students a chance to participate in fun activities outside of the classroom.
Excitingly, this year we will be running our first swimming carnival in 23 years to be held at Oak Park pool on Friday, March the 8th
On the day there will be
We are encouraging students to come dressed in fun clothing featuring their house colours. There will be prizes at each year level for the best dressed student, and every student dressed in house colours will contribute points towards their house.
Although there will be some competitive swimming events, the focus for the day is to have fun, connect with each other, and have a great day cheering on our houses!
