State Championships Success for GSG Equestrian Team

Our GSG Interschool Equestrian Team recently competed at the WA Interschool State Championships – a challenging and rewarding three-day event held at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon.

Every rider represented the school with pride, achieving excellent individual results. Whether it was reaching personal goals, placing in individual classes, or earning overall championship placings, each team member demonstrated commitment, growth, and determination. Importantly, all riders displayed outstanding horsemanship and a genuine connection with their horses throughout the competition.

A special congratulations to:

  • Amelia McDonald, Year Twelve
  • Abbie Cameron, Year Nine
  • Willow Bennett,  Year Nine
  • Maggie Lester, Year Eight
  • Poppy Lester, Year Eight
  • Sadie Cameron, Year Six

Our riders and their horses showed incredible resilience and strength, navigating tough weather, demanding conditions, and the added pressure that comes with travelling and competing at a state level. The Interschool State Championships provide a valuable opportunity for students to test themselves against top competitors from across Western Australia.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all of our amazing team parents, your time, effort and support make opportunities like this possible.

We also extend our gratitude to Mrs Cameron (Team Manager), Mrs Berryman (Team Co-ordinator), and Jemima Lester, our much-loved unofficial team mascot.

We are so proud of everything this team has achieved, both in and out of the arena!

Djinda Pre‑Kindergarten Program 2027 – Applications Now Open

We are excited to annouce that the Djinda Pre‑Kindergarten program for 2027 will be offered as a two‑day program (Thursday and Friday).

We are continuously reflecting on best practice and the importance of building strong, meaningful relationships with children and families. With this in mind, we have made the considered decision to move to a two‑day program.

This structure allows for greater continuity of learning, increased opportunities to develop secure relationships, and supports a smoother transition into school life.

An Application for Admission is required by Monday 1 June.  https://gsg.to/application (Please note: submitting an application does not guarantee a place.)

Families are welcome to attend our Information Session and explore our Wild Space on Thursday 7 May, 9.00am to 11.00am. Register via the link: https://enrol.gsg.wa.edu.au/wild-space-walk

The Arts

You may have noticed that the gardens near the Annette Knight Centre have had some additions installed over the holidays. We now have six new signs that can be found along the pathway that represent the six Menang seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. The images on the signs are vibrant and full of life. These were painted by Visual Arts students (Meg Furphy, Rif Hanna-McNeil, Bianca Marshall, Maizee Marshall, Lila-Rose Robson and Aila Williams) on the Red Moort camp of 2024 under the guidance of elders Aunty Carol Pettersen and Shandell Cummings. You will notice in each sign there is a circular symbol that shows how the Western 12 months and four seasons interconnect with the Menang six seasons.

In each sign there is also a representation of the osprey, which is so often seen on the grounds of the school. Aunty Carol talked with the students about the osprey being the symbolic guardian of the school. Students from Year One to Year Six also participated in workshops about the seasons with Jessikah Woods and their images have also been included as part of the signage.

This project was funded by the PALS (Partnership, Acceptance, Learning, Sharing) funding, provided by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism & Sport.

P&F Events

Despite the early morning rain threatening to put a damper on our first day of term coffee van, I’m pleased to say we were blessed with great weather, allowing many to enjoy a much-needed cup of caffeine after drop-off.

This term we turn our attention to the Dads and Kids Camp Out, details per the below graphic. It’s a great opportunity to meet other dads standing around Luke’s legendary fire pit.  Hope you can make it.
