Shaping the Future from our Environment Captains

Throughout the year we will be placing a spotlight on each of our Junior School Student Leaders, learning a little more about them and their roles.

Hi, I’m Emily! This year Xavi and I are proud to be your Environment Captains for 2026. A few fun facts about me: I have two guinea pigs, named Pancake and Waffle. I have a younger brother, and I love the sense of calm and serenity that nature provides. I hope this year will be wonderful with Xavi and me as your Environment Captains, and I also hope that anyone who is facing challenges always finds the courage to speak to someone for support.

Hi, I’m Xavi! I am one of the 2026 Environment Captains. This year is a big year for Emily and me, as there is growing attention on caring for our environment and finding ways to help stop climate change. Here are a few things about me: I have two younger brothers and one younger sister, a dog named Pepper, and I love going on walks and having adventures in nature. As Environment Captain, I would love for our College to make small but meaningful changes to help the environment, such as reducing soft plastic wrappers and using areas like Bush School more often. Even though All Saints’ College is already very environmentally friendly, there is always room to improve. I also hope to be a positive role model for the younger students in the Junior School and help everyone feel included and proud of the part they play in our school community.

As you may know, our theme for 2026 is “Active Hope: Creating Tomorrow Together.” We believe this theme strongly connects to caring for our environment. With the climate crisis facing our world, it is up to our generation to act by reducing greenhouse gases and protecting our planet. If we all come together and work hard, we can make a real difference. We hope to be the Environment Captains who help make that happen. This year will bring many environmental opportunities, including events such as Clean Up Australia Day (which has already taken place) and Earth Day, helping to keep our school a cleaner and greener space. Our College environment is precious and should be protected and treasured.

Please remember to keep picking up rubbish and encouraging others to do the same so we can continue to enjoy a thriving school environment. If anyone has ideas to help the environment or would simply like a chat, Emily and I are always happy to listen.

Students in Year 6 recently travelled to Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) for an engaging and memorable learning experience. During their visit, they explored the island’s rich history, unique environment and important role in Western Australia’s tourism industry.

The experience provided students with a deeper understanding of Wadjemup’s past, present and future, while encouraging respect and responsibility for this unique and significant place.

Our Year 4 students headed to Kaarta Koomba (Kings Park) for a wonderful day of exploring, investigating and getting a little wet! Students connected their classroom learning with the natural environment as they explored the wetlands, and searched for tiny creatures living in the water. Using scientific tools such as magnifying equipment and dichotomous keys, they worked like real scientists to classify insects and other living things they discovered.

Thank you to everyone who helped support our Year 4 students in such a memorable OLP experience!
