Principals' Weekly Update

Year 5/6 MUSEUM
The Year 5/6 students held an expo last Friday to raise awareness about the idea that, as citizens, we all have rights, roles, and responsibilities to be informed and uphold the values of Australia’s democracy. The museum-style expo was open to students and teachers across the school.
As a visitor, it was wonderful to see the wide range of topics explored and the creative ways students chose to present their learning.
Our talented Year 5/6 teachers used this opportunity to promote learner agency by asking students to design a museum experience suitable for visitors from Prep to Year 6. Students were also encouraged to reflect on how effective their presentations were for their audience.
We look forward to seeing how this experience influences their next ERP action.
GYMNASTICS
Our P-2 children have been involved in a gymnastics program. This program offers our children valuable opportunities to develop strength, balance, coordination, and confidence through fun and engaging movement activities. It also supports concentration, resilience, teamwork, and body awareness, helping children build important physical and social skills that contribute positively to both classroom learning and overall wellbeing.
Wellbeing – Social & Emotional Learning
Children develop friendship skills gradually through everyday interactions with family, peers, and teachers. In the early years, children learn important social abilities such as taking turns, sharing, listening, and recognising the feelings of others. As they grow, they begin to understand cooperation, problem-solving, empathy, and how to manage disagreements respectfully.
Friendships are built through repeated opportunities to play, communicate, and work together. Children also learn by observing the adults around them; seeing kindness, patience, and respectful communication modelled at home helps them develop these same qualities in their own relationships.
At our school, the URStrong Program supports children to develop the skills necessary to form and maintain positive friendships. Through guided discussions and practical strategies, children learn how to build healthy relationships, manage conflict, and communicate effectively with others.
We look forward to celebrating our Day of Friendship on Tuesday 12 May, where the spotlight on friendships will promote curiosity, reflection, and opportunities for conversations at home. We encourage families to use this occasion to support children in developing a healthy understanding of what can often be a complex but very important life skill.
