Our final guided Learning Walk for parents/guardians of prospective families to come to the school to see the children's learning in action, will be held on 1st June 2026 at 9:15am. This is more than a school tour.  It will give families a first hand look into the classrooms and the learning, the opportunity to ask questions and meet, listen and learn with other parents.

Student Agency - Schools that Listen

Our school is part of Student Agency – Schools that Listen, a diocesan initiative focused on strengthening student voice and ensuring that students play an active role in shaping their learning and the overall school experience.

This initiative recognises that students are not just participants in education, but important partners in it. By listening to students and creating opportunities for them to contribute, schools can better support engagement, well-being, and meaningful learning for all.

As part of this work, students and staff from our school recently took part in a Student Agency Forum, joining peers from across the Diocese. These forums provided an opportunity for participants to share their perspectives, exploring what matters most in their school experience, and to consider the question: What makes a great school for all?

Through hands-on activities and collaboration, participants reflected on their experiences and developed ideas that they will now bring back to our school community. This is part of a learn, share, do approach – where students and staff learn together, share their thinking, and take action in their own school.

We look forward to continuing this important work and sharing more with you as student ideas are explored and brought to life in our school.

Responsible Pet Ownership

On Friday,  our Year 1 students will have an incursion on Responsible Pet Ownership with Jenny. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to care for pets safely and responsibly, and to understand the importance of being kind and respectful towards animals. This incursion will take place from 11:30am - 1:00pm.

Love Bites Program

Starting on Wednesday, 13th May and continuing for 5 weeks, our Year 6 students will be involved in the Love Bites Junior program run by Senior Constable Steph Ward. This will be for one hour each week and will cover some very important topics relevant to this year level.  Some of the topics include: Managing Emotions, Resolving Conflicts, Relationships and Social Media, Bullying and Upstanding (just to name a few). These sessions will be interactive, with students participating in a range of engaging activities, discussions and scenarios designed to support their learning.

Year 2 Excursion

Our Year 2 students are currently exploring the topic of Past and Present, learning about how life has changed over time. On Thursday, 21st May, they will take part in an excursion to the Colac Historical Society at COPACC, visit the Shrine of Remembrance, and explore some of the older buildings along Murray Street. During their visit to the Historical Society, students will hear engaging stories from volunteers about what school life was like in the past. They will also have the opportunity to view a range of historical artefacts. The excursion will take place following our Catholic Education Mass at St Mary’s. Students will travel by bus from St Mary’s Church to COPACC and will return to school at approximately 1:20pm. Students will need to bring fruit, snacks, lunch, and a drink bottle. Please check the weather forecast, as a coat may be required.

Catholic Education Mass

Catholic Education Week will take place from the 25th - 29th May. To celebrate this event, all staff and students will be attending mass at St Mary’s Church on Thursday 21st May at 10:00am. Students will travel by bus to this event. The buses will leave Sacred Heart at 9:30am and return at approximately 11:20am. The mass will be celebrated with students from St Mary’s Primary School, St Brendan’s Primary School and representatives from Trinity College. Parents/Guardians and Grandparents are welcome to join us in this celebration.

Kind regards,

Karl Dwyer
