Library

Reading is food for the mind and soul.

Foundation

Foundation students have begun to practice taking books home to read with parents. Students will have the opportunity to select books on Fridays to take home in their book bags and will be restricted currently to 1 book at a time.

Year 1 and 2

During library this term students will be practicing borrowing and returning books from the library. We ask parents to aid in returning books back to school on Mondays so that students will be able to borrow new books or reborrow books they may need more time with. For the first term while we are practicing we will be restricting books to 1 borrowed at a time but will eventually allow up to 2 books at a time.

Year 5 and 6

Students in Years 5 and 6 this term have begun to learn to borrow and return books using their library codes. Books have a maximum borrow time of 1 month but can be bought in to be reborrowed if more time is needed. It is encouraged to bring books in early though when students are finished with them as there is a limit to how many books they can borrow at a time. Library will be scheduled for Year 6s on Monday and Year 5s on Friday.

Year 3 and 4

Library will be on Tuesday for Year 3 and 4.  Students are encouraged to bring their library bag on Tuesday to return or borrow. Books can be borrowed up till a month but can be returned earlier. If a student does not bring their library bag, they will still be able to borrow. Borrowing will cease in Week 10 of term to allow for book returns to be sorted and shelved.

Focus texts that have been read up to week 4 include: The Couch Potato, It’s Too Scary and Rosie Revere Engineer. The purpose of the reading and discussion in relation to the texts is to assist the students to use their time productively, overcome fearful emotions, sett positive goals and overcome gender stereotypes.
