NAPLAN 2025

Next week students in Years 3 and 5 will commence NAPLAN assessments on Wednesday March 12. Please see the testing schedule. All tests will commence promptly at 9.30am. Please give your child the best opportunity to give their Personal Best by ensuring that they arrive to school well rested and having had a healthy breakfast. An early night and a clear head will also help to minimise any anxiety they may experience.
What is NAPLAN?
The National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a nation-wide, standardised test for children in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 which covers writing, spelling, grammar, reading and numeracy skills.
When is NAPLAN 2025?
NAPLAN tests are taking place between March 12-21.
Why is it important?
NAPLAN is used by governments, schools, teachers and education facilities to determine whether Australian students have the foundational literacy and numeracy skills to aid them in further education. It provides an indication of how students are performing in schools and in which areas they could improve. It also offers insight into the skills students are struggling with, and the skills which need further support.
For students, NAPLAN is just one aspect of assessment and reporting and is a "one moment of one day" snapshot of student learning.
Although there are questions surrounding the benefits of NAPLAN, it continues to be a standard part of all schools.
How will NAPLAN be completed?
All students will complete NAPLAN online, with the exception of Year 3 writing which is completed on paper.
Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are considered to be more engaging for students. One of the main benefits is adaptive (or tailored) testing, where the test presents questions which may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses. Adaptive testing allows a wider range of student abilities to be assessed and measures student achievement more precisely. A student’s overall NAPLAN result is based on both the number and complexity of questions they answer correctly. Your child should not be concerned if they find questions challenging; they may be taking a more complex test pathway.
