Making A Splash! St Philomena's 3-10 Swimming Carnival
On the 12th February, students, staff, and families gathered at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre for our annual Swimming Carnival, and what a fantastic day it was! The sun was shining, the competition was fierce, and the spirit of sportsmanship was on full display.
A huge congratulations to McAuley, who took out the overall championship with their incredible performances in the pool and outstanding team spirit on the sidelines. Every race was a testament to our students’ dedication, with impressive swims across all strokes and distances.
Beyond the competition, the true highlight of the day was the enthusiastic participation from all students. Whether diving in for a race, cheering from the stands, or joining in the novelty events, everyone played a role in making the carnival a success. The House Chants were louder than ever, and the encouragement from teammates lifted swimmers to new personal bests.
A special mention goes to our Age Champions, who showcased outstanding talent and determination in their races. But more importantly, well done to every student who got in the pool, had a go, and supported their friends—your effort and enthusiasm define the spirit of our school!
Thank you to all staff, volunteers, and parents who helped run the event smoothly. Your support ensures that days like this continue to be a highlight of the school calendar.
Bring on next year’s carnival—bigger, better, and even more fun! 🏊♂️🎉
Diocesan Rugby League Trials
Congratulations to Haylie Turner, Marley Swan and Brodie Schutt who travelled to Lismore on Tuesday to compete in the Lismore/ Armidale Dio Rugby League Trials. The competition was extremely tough but we are excited to announce that Brodie Schutt was successful in reaching the next level and will go on to South West Rocks in April to compete at the Northern NSW CCC Trials. Well done everyone!
Moree Public School Zone Carnivals
Recently, Heidi Hardaker (Armidale Catholic Schools Sports K-6 Sport Coordinator) received communication regarding the participation of St Philomena’s Moree students and St Joseph’s Mungindi students in the Moree Zone Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Representative School Sport Pathway (RSSP) events. The participation of Catholic school students in the local Moree Zone School Sports Association RSSP events, is an additional opportunity which is not required for progression commensurate with their ability within the New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) RSSP. This is in keeping with the 1994 standing agreement between the Department of School Education, NSW Teachers Federation, NSW Primary School Sports Association and NSW Federation of Parents and Citizens.
Catholic school students have the opportunity to progress through the pathway system to represent Polding at NSWPSSA state championship events via their Diocese (Armidale). Public school students are not part of the Catholic schools sporting pathway and are ineligible to participate in this process. This is also the case for Catholic Schools students are ineligible to participate in Public schools sporting pathways. The 1994 Agreement outlines the responsibilities and organisation of the education sectors in relation to the NSWPSSA RSSP. In accordance with the 1994 Agreement non-government schools should first enter the representative sports pathway at the state championship level (NSWPSSA), not at a local level.
We thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to get in contact with Heidi Hardaker (0427958331)
Kind regards,
