Secondary Update

In Week 4, Years 7-10 students engaged in the first of our fortnightly assemblies. It was a time of celebration, performance, inspiration and information. Principal, Mr Alistair Stewart, addressed the students on "Becoming Your Best Self". This included important messages about the power of grit and determination, preparation, and working together as a team. Acknowledgement was awarded to those students who had been demonstrating our Term 1 goal to "Start Strong" - many students being awarded this, not only for starting the year well with regards to their academic application and readiness for learning, but also for their levels of enthusiasm, kindness, inclusion, and participation in other areas of school life.

In addition to these awards, the achievements of the Thomas family - Chuck, Kenji and Azami - at the recent Cannonball Festival (the pinnacle of mountain bike competitions in Australia), were recognised.

We acknowledged our Secondary Diocesan Swimming Team, who will be competing in Gunnedah on Friday 28th February, in addition to four students who had been selected to attend the Lismore Diocesan Rugby League U16s girls and U15s boys trials. The combined Armidale/Lismore teams will compete at Northern NSWCCC Rugby League at South West Rocks on Tuesday 1st April.

Finally, last week marked the 60th Anniversary of the 1965 Freedom Rides. Assistant Principal, Mr Richard Clark, presented the history and significance of the Freedom Rides and our K-10 dance group performed a traditional dance that was also performed at the Freedom Rides community event on Wednesday.

This term in PASS, students are enhancing their skills in court games. Students have taken a game based approach to badminton and are improving their serve, return shots and teamwork.

Year 8 PDHPE

To start our year strong, we have been engaging in a range of different fitness tests during our PE lessons. Some of the tests include: beep test (for cardiorespiratory endurance), standing long jump (explosive leg power), alternate handball toss (coordination) and sit up test (strength and endurance of abdominals and hip flexors). Stay hydrated and healthy everyone! Great work.

Year 8- HSIE

Year 8 (1) HSIE students have been learning about Water in our World. In Week 4, students had to investigate water at school. Students looked at different water forms (solid, liquid & gas), clean, dirty, saved and misused water sources. Water is a precious resource.
