You may have notices our SWPBS visual displays located across the school. These green and yellow posters contain the expected standards for behaviour within the various locations of the school. This year the work of SWPBS continues within the classrooms and during staff professional learning sessions. The focus will be to further entrench the behaviour standards across all learning spaces.
This term we have a spotlight on the Learning Spaces expected standards. Each week, students will learn more about one standard through lessons, circle time conversations and by highlighting behaviours through general teaching and learning practices.
Over the past two weeks our spotlight expected standards have been:
Kindness - ‘We use kind and respectful words'
Personal Excellence – ‘We make positive learning choices for ourselves and others'
Our focus for the coming week will be:
Tenacity – ‘We give everything a go’.
A Student Support Group is a partnership between schools, parents/carers, the student and community support agencies. The SSG meeting looks at all aspects of a child’s learning and wellbeing to ensure they reach their personal best. Group members work together to plan and support the diverse needs the student.
Not all students have SSG meetings. Teachers, parents and allied health professionals assist us to determine who requires an SSG.
The 2025 Student Support Group Meeting for term 1 will be held during weeks 6, 7 and 8. Teachers will be in touch to book a time for their student’s meeting in the near future.
Most of the time at Karoo PS students feel happy, but on occasions, when things aren't going well, we use four key actions to support the Wellbeing of all. These are - Student Voice, Understanding, Restorative Conversations and Future Actions. Working with restorative practices, we support the social and emotional needs of our students to ensure they can again play and work happily.
Wellbeing student support comes in many forms at KPS. We offer a range of supports to cater for the needs and interests of our students. From lunch time clubs, wellbeing groups, intergenerational experiences, to our much-treasured Wellbeing dog Archie, we aim to foster confidence.
At the centre of all we do are our values of Kindness, Personal Excellence and Tenacity.
Kind Regards,
Robyn Harris
